Job Title:Payroll Manager Job Description:

Summary:

The Payroll Manager oversees the organization's payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately and in compliance with government regulations. The Payroll Manager has complete ownership of the end-to-end payroll process and will need extensive payroll and process management experience to effectively meet business expectations.

Essential Functions:

  • Inputs, maintains, and processes payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. Process data updates including review of new hires, terminations, and changes to compensation.

  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.

  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors

  • Reconciles all payroll taxes. Administers W-2 processing and 1095(c)'s. Partners with the payroll vendor to effectively manage payroll taxes in approx. 17 states.

  • Performs various journal entries, account reconciliations, and provides general ledger support to the Finance department

  • Analyze, identify and implement procedures to improve all aspects of the payroll process, including time and attendance

  • Compiles reports as required by management and government agencies regarding employee payroll issues

  • Manage and support M&A activity as the bank continues in a business growth cycle

  • Establishes, maintains and/or builds business relationships with associates and management and exercises independent discretion and judgment to resolve payroll disputes

  • Researches associate payroll issues, evaluates and determines approaches to provide resolution

  • Owns documentation of processes including adherence to SOX requirements

  • Other duties and projects to support department needs

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, audit, payroll taxes and in-depth Workday HR/Payroll system knowledge.

  • Strong leadership and change management skills

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to a high ethical standard

  • Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, have excellent planning and organizational skills, possess the ability to meet goals, objectives and deadlines, and the ability to handle a variety of responsibilities with minimal supervision

  • Must be flexible, agile and able to partner collaboratively with the team

  • Requires the ability to interact effectively with associates throughout the organization, including vendors, partners and stakeholders

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources or related field is required

  • CPP or FPC designation strongly preferred

  • Minimum 8 years' experience in payroll/payroll management

  • Advanced knowledge of Workday HR/Payroll or similar cloud solution required. Specifically, Workday Payroll experience is strongly preferred.

  • Encyclopedic knowledge of payroll, payroll tax, reporting, audit and control requirements as well as IRS regulations required

  • Multi-state payroll experience required (processing in approx. 17 states, including CA and OH)

  • Banking industry experience helpful

  • Experience administering Employee Stock Transactions (ESPP)

  • Experience analyzing compensation, bonus and benefit programs

  • Experience managing M&A activity for payroll, including system integrations and new state setup

  • Experience initiating and managing transformational business process changes

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel abilities preferred

Computer and Software Skills:

  • Skilled in operation of a personal computer, including Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Experience with Google-based products (Gmail, Google Drive, etc.) preferred
