What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Technician to join the Materials Engineering team, focusing on the development of next-generation silicon anodes for high-energy EV batteries. In this hands-on role, you will support lab-scale evaluation, testing, and fabrication of silicon-based anode materials, electrodes, and prototype cells. Working closely with engineers and scientists, you will ensure precise execution of experiments, maintain critical lab equipment, and deliver reliable data to drive material and process improvements. Your technical expertise will be vital in enhancing efficiency, consistency, and innovation within the R&D pipeline, while also taking ownership of equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor upgrades to keep lab systems operational and safe.

What You'll Do
  • Perform hands-on fabrication and testing of silicon anode electrodes and 1000 mAh pouch cells using dry electrode processes
  • Operate and maintain key lab equipment, including PSD, powder rheology analyzer, SEM, moisture analyzer, mechanical testers, electrode resistivity system, and electrochemical test systems
  • Conduct material and electrode-level testing to evaluate swelling behavior, cycle life, fast-charging performance, and mechanical stability
  • Collect, document, and organize experimental data with high accuracy while supporting data analysis under guidance from engineers
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, addressing electrical, mechanical, and control system issues, and perform repairs or component replacements
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and calibration of lab instruments to ensure reliability and data integrity
  • Support equipment upgrades and modifications, such as adding sensors or enhancing automation, in collaboration with engineers and vendors

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Materials Science, Chemical Technology, Electrochemistry, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in battery materials, electrochemistry, or advanced materials testing in a lab or pilot-scale environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in lithium-ion battery cell assembly, electrode processing, and electrochemical testing techniques
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining complex lab equipment related to materials and battery testing
  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience in diagnosing and repairing equipment malfunctions
  • Ability to document and organize experimental data with precision for analysis and reporting
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment in compliance with EHS standards

    Expected Compensation
    $24.40 - $50.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
