Position Summary: The Senior Theater Technician is a key member of the MIM Music Theater production team, supporting the technical operations of one of the nation's premier live music venues. This role is strongly focused on live audio engineering while also supporting lighting, stage, and general production needs.
Working closely with the Production Manager and technical team, the Senior Theater Technician provides essential operational support across concerts, educational programs, special events, rentals, and recording projects. This individual regularly serves as a front-of-house audio engineer and assists with lighting operation, stage coordination, equipment maintenance, and production logistics.
The position also provides critical technical support and continuity for the theater team, helping ensure consistently high production standards, safe operations, and a professional experience for artists and visiting crews.
Responsibilities/Essential Duties:
- Serve as front-of-house audio engineer for a significant number of concerts and events.
- Review artist riders, stage plots, and input lists in preparation for performances.
- Set up, operate, and strike audio systems including consoles, stage boxes, monitors, microphones, and outboard equipment.
- Troubleshoot audio systems during load-ins, soundchecks, and performances.
- Maintain consistent audio quality aligned with the high production standards of the MIM Music Theater.
- Assist with stage preparation, backline setup, and equipment changeovers.
- Coordinate backstage logistics to maintain efficient artist flow and stage readiness.
- Assist with loading and unloading equipment for performances and events.
- Assist with maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of audio and lighting equipment.
- Support inventory tracking and organization of technical equipment and supplies.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe theater environment.
- Assist with infrastructure improvements and technical upgrades when needed.
- Work closely with the Production Manager and other technical staff to ensure seamless show execution.
- Provide guidance and support to part-time technicians and overhire crew when appropriate.
- Support rental clients and visiting crews with basic technical needs.
- Maintain positive relationships with artists, touring personnel, vendors, and theater staff.
- General Expectations: Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. Follow all policies and procedures. Cultivate inclusive and respectful working relationships that support a sense of belonging for all team members, volunteer team members, and guests. Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Qualifications: High school diploma and 3-5 years of experience in live production/performing arts environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed in the job description.
- Strong experience in live sound engineering for concerts or performing arts venues
- Working knowledge of professional lighting systems and ETC Ion consoles preferred
- Ability to read stage plots, input lists, and technical riders
- Experience with digital mixing consoles and professional audio systems
- Familiarity with theatrical lighting equipment and programming concepts
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours based on performance schedule
- Ability to lift and move production equipment safely
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
