Helix Electric is hiring experienced Medium Voltage (MV) Electricians to support a large-scale mission critical data center build in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This position focuses on underground, installation, termination, testing, and commissioning of 5kV-35kV electrical systems across a high-availability campus.

DUTIES & SCOPE:


  • Install, splice, and terminate shielded MV cable (5kV-35kV)
  • Perform stress cones, load-break elbows, cold-shrink/heat-shrink terminations
  • Install and work on medium voltage switchgear (ABB, Eaton, Siemens, Schneider)
  • Execute switching orders, LOTO, and follow site safety protocols
  • Perform megger, phasing, and hi-pot/VLF testing (with supervision or NETA team)
  • Interpret one-line diagrams and wiring schematics
  • Work closely with commissioning teams during energization
  • Perform underground work
  • Install large PVC conduit underground
  • Work in trenches



QUALIFICATIONS:



  • 4+ years as an MV electrician
  • Experience with 5kV-35kV cable systems
  • Strong knowledge of arc-flash PPE and MV safety practices
  • Ability to read technical drawings, one-lines, and switching procedures
  • Must pass background and site badging requirements
  • Must have Osha10/30
  • Must have experience operating offroad forklift
  • Iowa Journeyman Electrical license.
  • 3M, Prysmian, or Hendrix termination training
  • Prior data center



    PHYSICAL DEMANDS & REQUIREMENTS:



    • Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, snow.
    • Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves always), respirator when required.
    • Able to work 8-10 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime, and night shifts as required.
    • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, including crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, able to routinely lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds and pushing and pulling of objects is required.
    • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
    • Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.



    COMPENSATION:

    The hourly base pay for this role is $45 per hour and $125 per diem for all 7 days. The actual base is dependent upon many factors, such as location, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. The role may also be eligible for bonus and benefits.
