General Notes

This position is a part-time hourly non-benefited position from March through May 2026. Shifts are available Thursday through Sunday and can be between 4 hours and 10 hours per day depending on your availability. We need to fill all shifts between 7:30am and 6:30pm. Scheduled hours per week can be less than or exceed 19 hours per week based on your availability.

Purpose

Assist the Facilities Services team with cleaning and maintaining a positive presentation and experience of all physical facilities for visitors and staff during our seasonal busy time March through May.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure overall positive presentation and experience of all physical facilities for visitors and staff. Monitor events and traffic flow of visitors throughout the gardens and buildings, performing timely clean-up including emptying trash cans, cleaning restroom facilities, picking up trash, cleaning spills etc. Clean public/common areas, including emptying trash, dusting, vacuuming, windows, etc. to ensure consistently clean and safe presentations. Work with light cleaning products, as necessary. Regularly empty interior and exterior trash cans within gardens and public areas.Proactively maintain cleanliness of exterior hardscapes, including sweeping of sidewalks and trash pick-up if necessary. Collect recycled materials and ensures waste is placed in the proper dumpster. Ensure tripping or other safety hazards are immediately reported to the supervisor.

  • Work closely with other departments for public and private events. Assure event spaces are properly set up. Assist in identifying safety violations during event setup. After the event is over, the space must be cleaned and returned for public use.

  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with managers, co-workers, members, visitors, or others.

  • Operate powered carts, floor cleaner and other light mechanical cleaning equipment. (Note: this job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license and a copy of your current 3-year driving record. UT Drivers Training will be required to operate powered carts.)

  • Maintain proper use of radios and ensure service requests are responded to in a timely manner. May act as an initial response to emergency situations. Assist facilities staff, as needed, to move and set up furniture, stanchions, and other items.

  • Other functions as assigned including attend meetings as required during scheduled work hours and perform other duties or special projects as requested by supervisor/management.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience in any of the following fields: custodial, hospitality, environmental services, warehouse, production or facilities maintenance.
  • Experience following basic work instructions. Ability to follow verbal instructions. Must be able to communicate via two-way radio. Basic reading skills in order to understand work orders, product labels, and other written job materials.
  • Stable work history. Strong attendance record. Arrive on time to scheduled shifts and adequately communicate necessary absences or time off with supervisor.
  • Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans, when necessary, throughout the day.
  • Must always work with respect and cooperation with fellow employees and the public. Must be committed to always working safely.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • More than six months experience in any of the following fields: custodial, hospitality, environmental services, warehouse, production or facilities maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with supervisors and peer group in a timely, respectful, and effective manner. Demonstrated ability and willingness to be an effective team member. Well developed interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience in a busy environment working around clients.
  • Excellent initiative, attention to detail, and ability to change tasks quickly and willingly according to changing needs instructions.
Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$18.00 per hour

Working Conditions
  • May work in all weather conditions.

  • May work around electrical and mechanical hazards.

  • Climbing of stairs and ladders.

  • May work around standard office conditions.

Final candidates will be required to pass a background check prior to starting employment.

Work Shift
  • Shifts Available: 4-, 5-, 8-, and 10-hour shifts between the hours of 7:30am and 6:30pm on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, March through May. Schedule to be set in consultation with the supervisor.
