Our Gridtern Program provides current college students the ability to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will begin on Monday, June 15, 2026, and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking opportunities, community involvement, and most importantly, have fun!

What You'll Do

Our New York Environmental Sustainability team is dedicated to advancing the Responsible Business Charter commitments related to environmental stewardship across the New York Gas and Electric businesses. This team's focus includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, preserving the natural environment on land we manage, and promoting climate adaptation and resource resiliency. They work closely with the New York operations team to ensure compliance with the NYS Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) while also helping to achieve its broader targets and ambitions. Our efforts support sustainability throughout National Grid by setting strategic direction, influencing external policies, and collaborating with peers across the US to drive decarbonization and the clean energy transition. Additional activities include ESG disclosures, rate case support, and trade association engagement.

As a Gridtern, you will assist in assembling a GHG metric library to enhance emission reporting and analytics. You will support preparations for 6 NYCRR Part 253 reporting, conduct peer benchmarking to assess sustainability performance, and refine methodologies for quarterly greenhouse gas emission projections. You will help facilitate improvements in GHG reporting for various metrics, support voluntary disclosure processes, and contribute to US Nature Strategy and supply chain sustainability activities. Additionally, you will write articles on sustainability concepts for internal distribution channels, helping to communicate and promote our environmental commitments.

You will be based in Brooklyn, NY working in a Hybrid format for the summer. You must reside within a commutable distance to the designated work location during this period

What You'll Need
  • Availability to start on the program start date, June 15, 2026, and work full-time (40 hours a week) for the duration of the summer
  • Must be registered as a full-time student and continue your education full-time through the Fall 2026 semester
  • Pursuing an Associates, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science/Studies, Engineering, Biological & Physical sciences
  • Have accumulated 18 or more credits and be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (including CPT & OPT)

Salary Range

$19.00 - $26.00 an hour

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year. Our Gridtern Program does not offer relocation, housing assistance, or public transportation reimbursement for Gridterns; however, we can provide a list of resources to utilize in making your arrangements.

Please note that as a Gridtern, you must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. You must also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
