Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students for Student Success and Transition Initiatives, the Director provides overall leadership, strategic direction, vision, and coordination of direct services, activities, and programs related to student veterans and military-affiliated students' needs. The Director will foster an environment that addresses the unique needs of student veterans and military-affiliated students as they transition from the military to campus life and beyond.

The MVC Director role is a highly sought after position for many veterans who transition from service to civilian employment. The University of Texas at Dallas values military veterans and look forward to the campus partnership this role fosters.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related progressive experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
Master's degree and minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience working within the U.S. military, Department of Veteran's Affairs, or military assistance programs.
Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and assessment of programs, services, and activities that connect student veterans to campus, career, and community.
  • Preserve the Military and Veteran Center as the point of contact for veterans' services and support.
  • Provide outreach and educational programs, including producing training materials related to awareness and understanding of veteran issues and needs.
  • Advise the student veteran organization and create an active and informal veterans network/support group on campus.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with a variety of external constituents and university departments to implement strategies to achieve veteran student success.
  • Provide leadership in the hiring, training, and supervision of professional staff and student employees.
  • Serve as the university's liaison to maintain positive and productive relationships with pertinent external veterans' offices and organizations.
  • Oversee departmental budget - fiscal monitoring, forecasting, reporting.
  • Oversee communication and marketing initiatives (policies and procedures, website, departmental correspondence, bulletins, etc.)

Additional Information
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in-office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
