Position Description

The IT Support Technician I's scope includes providing technical support and assistance to departments, faculty, staff, and students with the use of basic hardware and some software support and maintenance. Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations are responsibilities of all employees.

About the Department and/or College

The Jerry S. Rawls College of Business Administration is AACSB accredited and houses the School of Accounting that holds separate AACSB accreditation. The college offers the BBA degree with majors in accounting, energy commerce, finance, information technology, management, marketing, and supply chain management. Several formats of the MBA program are offered in fulltime, weekend, and online modalities in Lubbock, the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Houston, and San Antonio. The College offers MS degrees in accounting, data science, finance, and marketing research and analytics. A Ph.D. in business administration is offered with tracks in accounting, finance, management, management information systems, and marketing. With a faculty of over 140 and a staff that exceeds 80, the college enrolls over 5,000 undergraduate and 800 graduate students.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Provides department or unit, primarily basic hardware and some software support and maintenance, including, but not limited to, desktops, printers, lab equipment, etc.
  • Coordinates and communicates effectively with end users; provides explanations and training based on each user's level of understanding and expertise.
  • Provide faculty and staff with basic user and technical documentation in support of existing hardware and software systems.
  • Assist new users with the setup and configuration of their assigned computer system- logon, virtual drive mappings, printer setups, etc
  • Communicates effectively with management as well as coworkers; Provides cross-training to coworkers on various computer hardware and software troubleshoots and repair.
  • Assist with maintaining the annual property management inventory.
  • Adheres to departmental policies as well as "best practices" when planning and conducting troubleshooting and repair.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with other desktop services staff and with the various, user groups within and outside of the college.
  • Other duties as assigned.
With close supervision by management and/or project leads:
  • Provides department or unit, primarily basic hardware and some software support and maintenance, including, but not limited to, desktops, printers, lab equipment, etc.
  • Troubleshoots primarily hardware, some software, or some system problems.
  • Performs technical duties necessary for department or unit business operations.

Ability to:

  • Exercise judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Plan and organize effectively, prioritize goals, use time efficiently, and stay on task.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with coursework in computer science, MIS, IT, or other related area OR a combination of related education and/or experience. Applicants for this Security Sensitive Level II position will be subject to a criminal background check and must pass a drug and alcohol test after a conditional offer of employment has been extended, but before employment can be confirmed.

Preferred Qualifications

Windows and Mac experience and/or any other training or certificates related to technology services.
