Overview

As a Data Engineer, you will design, build, and optimize data architectures and pipelines across Microsoft Fabric and Azure in our Pittsburgh, PA office. You will develop scalable data transformation processes using Data Factory, jupyter notebooks, and SQL, while enabling reliable, automated, and wellgoverned data operations. This role plays a key part in advancing DataOps practices-including DevOps, CI/CD, and governance through Microsoft Purview-while supporting a modern analytics ecosystem. Experience with Power Automate and Copilot agents is a plus.

Responsibilities:

    Architect and implement Lakehouse/Warehouse solutions in Fabric (medallion patterns, Delta tables, partitioning, CDC)
  • Build and orchestrate pipelines (Fabric Data Factory/Pipelines, notebooks, event-driven patterns) with robust observability and retry logic
  • Develop data products and shared semantic layers for analytics and downstream apps
  • Optimize performance and cost (storage formats, Z-order, indexing, caching, workload management)
  • Implement CI/CD (Azure DevOps/GitHub) for notebooks, pipelines, and BI artifacts
  • Enforce security (RBAC/ABAC), data quality checks, and privacy/compliance
  • Manage Purview: collections, scans, lineage, classifications, and ownership workflows
  • Collaborate with other analysts and engineers to automate operations and enable self-service
  • Provide architectural guidance and mentor junior engineers to build team capability
  • Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders
  • Lead development, configuration, and maintenance of solutions within the Microsoft Power Platform ecosystem, which may include Power Apps, Power Automate, and SharePoint. Use these tools to streamline workflows, enhance data accessibility, and improve collaboration


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. Additional experience may be substituted for education
  • 5+ years of experience as a data engineer/architect on Microsoft Fabric and Azure. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview (catalog, policies, lineage)
  • Python, PySpark, Spark notebooks (structured/streaming), and SQL/SQL Server
  • Strong experience with ETL/ELT design, performance tuning, and workload orchestration. DevOps/CI/CD practices (branching, environments, automated testing/deploy). Experience with GIT or other code repositories is required
  • Production experience with data modeling and serving layers for BI/AI
  • Experience with Kafka, Event Hubs, or other real-time streaming platforms
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated and directed
