Job Overview:

The Assistant Vice President of Operations partners with the Chief Operating Officer to oversee support departments and ensure efficient, safe, and patienta'centered operations. The role supports organizational planning, operational performance, regulatory compliance, and service excellence. The AVP helps drive higha'quality, compassionate, culturally competent, and costa'effective care through collaboration with Quality, Safety, Risk Management, Emergency Preparedness, and support teams.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in healthcare leadership, preferably within large hospital systems.
  • Strong focus on patient-centered care and service excellence.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a track record of motivating diverse teams.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in improving clinical outcomes and operational metrics.

Essential Functions:

  • Supports the hospital's mission of patient care, community service, and education by partnering with clinical teams, administrative leaders, and community stakeholders to meet patient needs and strengthen community trust.
  • Helps develop and implement plans that improve safety, efficiency, and patient care and presents to the Performance Improvement Council.
  • Uses sound judgment to support operational decisions affecting all patient populations.
  • Participates in decisiona'making with clinical, medical, and administrative leaders in collaboration with the decentralized nursing assistant program.
  • Acts as a change agent, helping teams understand and adapt to new processes.
  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking, conflict management, and problema'solving skills.
  • Leadership & Employee Development: Cultivates a positive, inclusive workplace culture by mentoring leaders, promoting staff engagement, and supporting professional growth.
  • Promotes safe, efficient operations and consistent patient care practices.
  • Assists in developing policies, procedures, and programs that support operational and clinical standards.
  • Evaluates programs and contributes to performance improvement efforts.
  • Supports the development of evidencea'based standards within assigned departments.
  • Collaborates with professional disciplines to improve operations and financial performance.
  • Ensures compliance with state, federal, and accrediting agency requirements.
  • Support of the Healthcare Environment
  • Helps establish and meet fiscally responsible operational goals aligned with system strategy.
  • Works with the COO and operational leaders to carry out department priorities by developing A3s and risk assessments.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels and competency to support operational needs by working closely with the CFO and Vizient
  • Supports efforts to meet system metrics including Leapfrog, CMS Star Ratings, OSHA and key performance indicators.
  • Promotes staff training, development, and engagement to strengthen retention.
  • Supports a safe, inclusive, and patienta'centered environment.
  • Workforce Development & Professional Practice
  • Fosters a culture that supports recruitment, engagement, and retention of qualified staff in order to meet voluntary turnover goal.
  • Serves as a mentor and role model to promote teamwork, accountability, and service excellence.
  • Participates in the selection, orientation, development, and evaluation of operational leaders.
  • Oversees training and competency programs that support higha'quality operations and service.
  • Utilize analytics to monitor performance, identify gaps, and develop targeted initiatives for continuous improvement.
