TITLE: Assistant Shift Supervisor



POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Assistant Shift Supervisor supports the Manufacturing Supervisor in overseeing daily production operations to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, and schedule adherence. This position is responsible for on-shift leadership, coordination, and real-time problem-solving while serving as a key link between operators, maintenance, quality, and management team.



QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.
  • Minimum 2 years of general manufacturing experience, industrial manufacturing, nutraceutical/pharmaceutical manufacturing,or related industrial manufacturing experience required.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing, mechanical, light industrial or plant operations required, including but not limited to basic knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment, strong aptitude for math (e.g. good understanding of metric weights and measures), and good reading skills.
  • College Degree or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Supervise and support the daily activities of Manufacturing Operators to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production execution.
  • Responsible for maintaining floor-level visibility and supporting team performance.
  • Ensure that production plans are executed effectively, standard work is followed, and issues are identified and escalated promptly. his position is critical in sustaining operational stability, meeting customer commitments, and developing frontline talent.
  • Coordinate raw material staging and availability with the Warehouse to ensure uninterrupted flow of materials for dispensing and blending operations.
  • Ensure all production documentation is completed accurately and in real time, including batch records, logbooks, and required production forms, in accordance with cGMP requirements.
  • Verify proper setup, operation, and basic upkeep of manufacturing equipment, including encapsulation machines, tablet presses, blenders, and coating pans.
  • Ensure operators strictly follow batching procedures and formula requirements, including accurate weighing and verification of raw materials.
  • Perform routine in-process quality checks to confirm encapsulation machines and tablet presses are operating within specification for weight, appearance, and overall bulk quality.
  • Document all quality checks directly in batch records.
  • Perform or support equipment adjustments and changeovers as required and promptly communicate equipment issues or repair needs to the Maintenance team.
  • Monitor production progress against the schedule and adjust workflow, staffing, or priorities as needed to maintain schedule adherence.
  • Act as a coach and mentor to manufacturing personnel, promoting accountability, productivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure manufacturing personnel receive appropriate training and cross-training to safely and effectively perform their duties and support progression to the next skill level.
  • Assist with employee performance evaluations, providing timely, constructive feedback and supporting ongoing development plans.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), cGMP, food safety regulations, and internal safety policies at all times.
  • Enforce safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, actively addressing unsafe conditions or behaviors to prevent injuries and incidents.
  • Communicate regularly with Manufacturing Operator, Supervisor/Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Technician, and Quality Assurance to identify and correct issues, immediately.
  • Assure raw materials staging and supervising the pre- and post-mixing, pre- and post-blending.
  • Supervise the set-up and preparation raw material for pre-mixing and pre- blending processes, including but not limited to picking, collecting, screening, milling, weighing, scaling, sifting and moving materials pre and post preparation for mixing and blending.
  • Responsible for supervising all working areas and equipment pre and post processing.
  • Ensure the raw material is staged and picked according to specifications, ensure accurate weighing and scaling, check and doublecheck raw material item number, blend amount, weight, lot number and record information with precision and accuracy. Update the Mixing Records for each batch record and update the Daily Mixing Log for each lot. Visually check for quality assurance and quality of blend throughout the process.
  • Helps to maintain a positive working environment within the department.
  • Helps in training co-worker's to fill in departmental needs.
  • Resolve all issues with Department Manager.
  • May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.



PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:



  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to stand for 8-10 hours daily.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, holidays, weekends, on short notice, as needed.
  • Flexibility to work longer hours to meet deadlines, as needed.
  • Availability to workday shift or night shift, and accommodate change of shift, if needed.
