Job Summary

The OHI Research Administrator coordinates budgeting and nance activities as well as UC Davis staff, internationally-hired program staff, and multiple partner organizations to deliver effective response, research, development, and capacity building programs and to conduct transdisciplinary and multinational collaborative projects. In collaboration with the OHI Executive Director, CAO, Financial Operations Manager, and Leadership Team, supports collaborative partnerships, assures compliance and oversight of operations, facilitates achievement of objectives and accomplishment of deliverables, and directs reporting for numerous multi-national programs funded primarily by the US government and totaling over $12 million per year.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • At least 2 years' experience managing grants and contracts and skills to interpret and apply relevant policies (UC preferred).
  • At least 2 years' experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Experience in using computers for word processing, calendars, managing email, and specific expertise using spreadsheet and database software for financial analysis and experience establishing and managing multi-location and without salary appointments.
  • Extensive experience establishing and managing sub awards with foreign organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and superb organizational skills and skills to establish goals, prioritize workload and complete projects on time.
  • Current knowledge of compliance regulations for Federal awards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA), or ability to obtain certification within a 12-month time period from date of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating public health, wildlife health, human health or related epidemiology research or training.
  • Expert-level experience with UC Davis nancial technologies and operations including Aggie Expense, Aggie Enterprise, Cognos, UC Path, etc., and scal close operations.
  • Experience working with contracts and grants on the UC Davis campus, or within a large university system.
  • Expert-level knowledge of UC policies and procedures.

Department Overview

This position exists within the One Health Institute (OHI), which is engaged in numerous state and international training and research projects and programs regarding the pressing topics of emerging disease, like Ebola, and those in the wildlife ecology and conservation realm, including responding to emergency events for critically endangered species. The One Health Institute is the administrative home of a diverse collection of research and public service Centers, Programs and projects. Each of these organizational units and the individuals who comprise them fulll the mission of the OHI as they are all Working at the interface of animals, people, and the environment to solve complex problems impacting health and conservation. The Research Administrator 3 is responsible for many aspects of project and contract/grant acquisition, administration, implementation, and reporting, including development of project tracking mechanisms, project oversight, international communications to many government agencies, and oversight of our in country partners foreign countries. The position coordinates effective execution of many of the OHI's international projects and is expected to contribute to the overall enhancement of the OHI and its Programs and projects. The position operates as a functional expert, having responsibility for creation and implementation of functional plans for international projects. The RA3 is also responsible for consulting in the development of new global operations including start-up and initiation of business processes and oces with new partners; coordination and production of decision documents/recommendations; tracking of priorities; issues and risks; and coordination of efforts with partners, colleagues, and others as needed to ensure program success. The Research Administrator 3 is a nancial and administrative professional with a good degree of knowledge in these elds and will have the skills to perform complex nancial analyses.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
