Overview

Background Information:

This full-time position will serve as an Engineering Technician within the Test Communications team at the Atlantic Test Range (ATR) at Patuxent River, MD. ATR is the navy's East Coast open-air test range and provides real-time test and evaluation (T&E) services including data acquisition, instrumentation, data analysis, recording, test management, and airspace management to DoD and commercial customers for aircraft and weapons system testing. Duties and Responsibilities:

    Support live, real-time test flights by operating and troubleshooting a variety of test communications equipment
  • Maintain and operate voice and data communications systems including remote infrastructure
  • Maintain and operate Flight Termination Transmitter equipment
  • Install and maintain fiber and CAT 5/6 infrastructure
  • Use test equipment to include spectrum analyzers, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and power meters to operate, monitor, and troubleshoot test communications instrumentation

Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications:

  • Tech I:
    • Minimum of 1 year of experience in performing the stated or similar job functions
  • Tech II:
    • High school diploma or equivalent GED is required
    • Engineering/Electronics Technician AA/AS degree or related curriculum from an accredited college or university or successful completion of technical school, trade school, or advanced armed services technical school or successful completion of at least 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of courses from an accredited college.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in performing the stated or similar job functions
  • Tech III
    • High school diploma or equivalent GED is required
    • Engineering/Electronics Technician AA/AS degree or related curriculum from an accredited college or university or successful completion of technical school, trade school, or advanced armed services technical school or successful completion of at least 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of courses from an accredited college.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in performing the stated or similar job function
  • Basic RF and electronics knowledge required
  • Experience installing, terminating, testing, and repairing fiber strongly desired
  • Experience installing, testing, and repairing CAT 5/6 strongly desired
  • Must be able to work overtime (notionally 15% to 25%) within some strenuous environments, including shipboard.
  • Must be able to travel at least 20% annually, including some maritime travel.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and successfully pass drug screening

Clearance Requirements:

  • Currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain the proper US DoD issued security clearance, which requires US Citizenship. Security clearance eligibility may be discussed during the interview phase.
  • Employment and start date contingent upon the candidate receiving the required US DoD issued interim security clearance

Work Conditions:

Conditions will vary. Most work is performed in enclosed buildings, but some outside work may be required. Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching. Applicant should be capable of lifting 50-100 lbs. assisted by other employees. Visual abilities needed to perform this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
