Sartorius is seeking a Head of Business Development to build the commercial infrastructure from the ground up and to shape the future of Cell & Gene Therapy manufacturing. This position is part of a high impact start up team focused exclusively on accelerating innovation in Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT). As our Head of Business Development, you will shape the global commercial strategy, open doors with your extensive CGT network, and drive the partnerships that define our next stage of growth.

This is a role for a builder - someone energized with the chance to influence how a new business unit scales from the ground up.

You will lead the commercial team and play a central role in defining our market position, customer engagement model, and longterm revenue. You'll work closely with legal, finance, and operations to craft terms, conditions, pricing structures, and scalable commercial processes that support rapid expansion.

What you will accomplish together with us:

Strategic Leadership & Market Expansion

  • Drive the commercial strategy for global and identify barriers to growth, proposing actionable solutions.
  • Leverage your deep CGT rolodex to open doors, build trust, and accelerate market penetration.
  • Stay ahead of emerging CGT trends, technologies, and competitive dynamics to guide strategic decisions.

Sales & Business Development

  • Lead seniorlevel sales engagements, visiting customers and articulating a compelling value proposition.
  • Build, manage, and take full accountability for the sales funnel and pipeline.
  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain longterm strategic relationships with key accounts and industry partners.
  • Generate new business opportunities through CRM insights and collaboration with marketing.
  • Provide financial justification for technology adoption

Customer Engagement & Technical Collaboration

  • Partner with technical sales and application specialists to deliver highimpact customer engagements.
  • Translate customer needs into clear requirements and ensure alignment across internal teams.
  • Develop SOPs that standardize pre and postsales processes to ensure consistent, exceptional customer experience.

CrossFunctional Partnership

  • Work closely with legal, contracts, and finance to negotiate and close deals, refine terms and conditions, and ensure commercial compliance.
  • Provide senior leadership with accurate forecasts, pipeline visibility, and market intelligence.
  • Forecast demand to manufacturing and supply chain to support operational planning.

Team Development

  • Coach and mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of openness, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

What will convinces us:

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Science, Biological Engineering, Biotechnology, or related field (master's or PhD preferred).
  • 5+ years of commercial development & sales experience in life sciences or related industries.
  • 5+ years of experience in Cell & Gene Therapy
  • Proven success selling healthcare or biotech equipment.
  • Handson experience in a GMP research or transfusion lab is a strong plus.
  • A robust CGT network and the ability to activate it.

Up to 50% travel with potential to travel internationally.

Base salary of $130,000-$200,000, commensurate with experience, education, and location along with a bonus.
