Engineering System Administrator

Position Purpose:
The Engineering Administrator is responsible for the management of all Engineering-specific software and related data. Administrator will provide support to all departments using Engineering software. In addition, admin will work with the internal IT department as well as coordinate and direct any external software support.

Duties & Responsibilities:

System Administration



  • Management of all data coming into and out of data management system (EPDM).
  • Champion current engineering change process.
  • Assist users with daily issues. Manage issues and problem solving through the IT ticket system.
  • Provide/coordinate training and support for all engineering software to all departments as required.
  • Responsible for daily management of the drawing publishing system with Flatter Files.
  • Conduct testing on Engineering systems especially for new versions to assure engineering workflows are not affected.
  • Oversee all installations and upgrades for both software and hardware pertaining to engineering assets.
  • Champion weekly SolidWorks User Group (SWUG) called Knap U with training and informative sessions from internal and external presenters.
  • Oversee and mentor work of other engineering system projects and personnel.


Process Improvement



  • Development of new process and future process improvements.
  • Development and management of standard and custom workflows. Develop written standards where necessary related to engineering software use.
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement activities.
  • Identify, plan, and manage process improvement projects utilizing engineering software across the organization.
  • Coordinate strategic initiatives with VARs and parent software companies like SolidWorks/Dassault.
  • Coordinate premier customer access programs with SolidWorks and DriveWorks to maximize the impact and benefit to company.


Supplier Management



  • Develop and maintain strategic software roadmap in alignment with engineering strategies.
  • Represent Knapheide in the SolidWorks, Dassault Systems and Driveworks Community.
  • Work with engineering software value added resellers (VARs) to expand existing software usage and add new software as required.
  • Manage SolidWorks Certification system for Knapheide. Assign exams, track results, and manage access to SolidProfessor classes and courses.


Position Requirements:



  • Minimum 5 years' experience in system administration. Must have strong PC skills with an extensive knowledge of IT systems and the management of engineering software.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Good organizational skills & administrative ability.
  • Past design experience is recommended.


Physical/Mental Requirements Needed to Perform the Essential Functions:



  • Job involves sitting and use of computer.
  • Normal standing, bending, lifting in an office environment is required.
  • Ability to work with frequent distractions in a very fast paced environment.
  • Periodic travel is required for remote site support, conferences and interfacing with supplier partners.
