Job Description

This posting is for a skilled Environmental Health Technician within the Knolls RADIAC Calibration Laboratory of Radiation Health. This role encompasses responsibilities for instrument calibration, advanced technical qualifications, and participation in research, development and innovation. The successful candidate will be integral to operation and maintenance of unique equipment, supporting both instrument calibrations and technical research and will have a direct impact on the safety and efficiency of our radiological controls.



Primary Responsibilities:
* Oversee performance of calibration and repair of Radiation Detection, Indication, and Computation (RADIAC) instruments.
* Work with specialized calibrating equipment such as Box Calibrators, open Calibration Ranges, and radioactive sources.
* Ensure timely calibration of RADIACs, to include shipping and receiving instruments, standards, materials and equipment to other NNL sites and vendors.
* Oversee the Knolls Electronic Personal Dosimeter (EPD) program.
* Participate in the revision, creation, and adoption of calibration procedures for RADIACs and supporting instruments.
* Engineer specialized components to enhance calibration efficiency.



Areas of Opportunity:
* Engage in innovative projects aimed at modernizing and simplifying radiological controls at KAPL and across the NNPP.
* Potential opportunities for cross-training in other Radiation Health functional areas, such as external dosimetry and internal monitoring.
* Travel to other NNL sites to support Laboratory RADIAC Program (LRP) audits and training.
* Benchmarking and training with industry vendors and standards.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Associates degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Journeymans Papers in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Qualification as a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator (or commercial nuclear equivalent) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Pay Range
$77,900.00 - $119,300.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
