WHO WE ARE:

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.

Job Summary:

Writer/Editor crafts integrated, purpose-driven content that delivers constituent-centric experiences to people affected by MS, event participants, donors, healthcare professionals and more. Content will inspire action and plays a key role in raising funds for MS research, engaging donors and empowering people with MS to live their best lives.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Draft, rewrite, edit and proofread content in alignment with the Society's brand, language and style guidelines and specific messaging developed for events and programs.

  • Project manage production of the Society's quarterly digital magazine.

  • Write digital articles and blogs to support the Society's content strategy.

  • Review and update content to ensure it is accurate, high quality, relevant, impactful and readable depending on channels, audiences and goals.

  • Edit content submitted by freelance writers.

  • Pitch creative ideas and innovative content formats to diversify content offerings and engage audiences in new ways.

  • Identify sources, perform interviews and write stories.

  • Support fact-checking in news and research articles and blog posts.

  • Support web content and fundraising campaign content.

  • Adapt complex medical terminology for key audiences.

What We're Looking For:

  • 3+ years of experience writing and editing multi-channel content

  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to tell compelling stories

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Project management and organizational skills

  • Research skills

  • Familiarity with relevant style guides (e.g., AP style)

  • Knowledge of the nonprofit sector and its unique needs (e.g., fundraising)

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Adaptability and willingness to learn

Location Requirements

  • Remote - Flexible Location

  • Work is primarily performed remotely, however, when possible and necessary, teams meet in person to conduct the business of the organization and build team relationships.

Compensation | Benefits:

The estimated hiring compensation range for this role is $60,000 - $69,000. Final offers will be based on the candidate'sgeographic location, consider career experience and may vary from this range due to these and other factors.
