Overview

NV5 Geospatial is actively recruiting a Data Scientist. Strong capabilities in developing and refining predictive models, analyzing large-scale datasets, and documenting analytic processes are required. The Data Scientist will be based remotely supporting US Southern Command. US citizenship, along with the ability to successfully pass a basic background check for access to US military bases, is required for employment. While no clearance is required, a Secret or higher is preferred.

Work Setting:

    This role offers flexibility in location, with the option to work from any NV5 Regional Office or remotely from home.
  • Potential travel up to 5-15% of the time

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine predictive models, conduct exploratory data analysis, and generate AI-driven insights to enhance intelligence and operational planning.
  • Integrate customer feedback into model iteration cycles, leveraging Agile development methodologies to maintain responsiveness to mission requirements.
  • Document key findings, model accuracy metrics, and operational impact assessments.
  • Implement sprint-based Agile methodologies, ensuring rapid development cycles, backlog grooming, and alignment with mission requirements.
  • Provide Rough Order of Magnitude estimates before each analytic project detailing hours, compute costs, storage consumption, and infrastructure requirements.
  • Conduct quarterly reviews to track cost efficiency, assess system performance, and optimize analytic workflows.


Qualifications

Minimum Requriements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science or seven (7) years of equivalent experience in machine learning and predictive modeling.
  • Demonstrated experience in exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and statistical testing.
  • Demonstrated experience with Python, R, SQL, and data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, SciPy).
  • Demonstrated experience in cloud-based AI/ML tools such as AWS SageMaker or Azure Machine Learning, and in implementing models into operational workflows.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data mining, statistical modeling, AI-driven forecasting techniques, and working with structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Demonstrated skills in data visualization, feature selection, and geospatial analytics.
  • Demonstrated capabilities integrating data from multiple sources, ensuring model accuracy, and working within Agile sprint cycles to deliver iterative improvements.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize complex project tasks.

Preferred:

  • AWS Certified Data Analytics Specialty, Microsoft Certified Azure AI Fundamentals, Certified Data Scientist (CDS).
  • Portuguese or Spanish language skills.
  • Experience with government IT programs and environments.

Clearance Requirement:

  • None required; Secret of higher preferred.
