Performs radiographic procedures within assigned areas in accordance with department protocols. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• 1. Performs quality and efficient diagnostic radiographic examinations, utilizing appropriate protocols and age specific standards.
• • 1.1. Verifies physician-s order on requisitions 100% of the time.
  • 1.2. Identifies the correct patient for the requested examination 100% of the time.
  • 1.3. Follows routine protocols and/or physician specific instructions 100% of the time.
  • 1.4. Properly positions patients for the requested examination.
  • 1.5. Selects proper technical factors to produce optimal radiographic images with reasonable patient dose.
  • 1.6. Verifies satisfactory image quality of each exam performed 100% of the time.
• 2. Under the direct supervision of a Radiologic Technologist, operates radiographic equipment to ensure proper technical results.
• • 2.1. Conducts daily inspection of radiographic equipment to ensure proper performance and image quality.
  • 2.2. Sets up and uses appropriate radiation protection devices for patients.
  • 2.3. Uses lead markers to properly identify correct side and position on image 100% of the time.
  • 2.4. Knowledgeable of all equipment in the section.
  • 2.5. Checks Synapse to ensure delivery of images to patient folder 100% of the time
• 3. Prepares examination room to ensure a clean and safe environment with adequate supplies to assure efficient and accurate performance of exams.
• • 3.1. Replaces any used supplies immediately after patient is dismissed
  • 3.2. Cleans equipment after each exam and follows infection control practices
  • 3.3. Reports safety and environmental concerns to the SRC and/or Supervisor
  • 3.4. Fills out contrast, consent, and time out forms if appropriate
  • 3.5. Checks work area daily to ensure availability of emergency medical equipment and that there are no expired supplies or medications.
  • 3.6. Demonstrates knowledge of proper set-ups for various examinations
• 4. Performs quality and compassionate patient care, utilizing appropriate age specific
  standards, to ensure patient cooperation, safety, and satisfaction.
• • 4.1. Thoroughly explains the procedure to ensure patient physical and emotional comfort
  • 4.2. Attentive to patient care needs 100% of the time Expediently calls for nursing and/or physician medical support as required
  • 4.3. Attentive and responsive to concerns of all patients and their families
• 5. Performs various record keeping, customer service functions, and communicates
  feedback to ensure the goals of the department are met and operations run efficiently.
• • 5.1. Accurately edits and completes all examinations in Imagecast to ensure proper medical record documentation and billing.
  • 5.2. Enters patient charges for all supplies used during procedures if appropriate
  • 5.3. Tracks begin and end times for all exams accurately in Imagecast
  • 5.4. Scans reqs/forms into Document Management as needed
  • 5.5. Provides feedback to supervisor or radiologist as needed
  • 5.6. Reports and documents patient incidents in a timely manner
• 6. Participates in various teaching and/or learning opportunities in order to further his/her own personal knowledge and to assist in expanding the knowledge of others.

• 7. To enhance the patient experience in Diagnostic radiology all staff will be responsible to achieve patient satisfaction scores set by the department on the Test

EDUCATION:

Graduation from an A.M.A.approved Radiologic Technology program and ARRT registry eligible. AS degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Demonstrated technical skills to meet entry level standards of routine radiography. RT(R) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) 1st attempt within 30 days of graduating, and Connecticut State Radiographer License is required within 120 days of hire date. CPR Certification within six (6) months.

LICENSURE:

ARRT 1st attempt within 30 days of graduating and CT License after 120 days hire date.

SPECIAL_SKILLS:

Demonstrates a basic understanding and technical skill with routine radiography, CR / Digital imaging techniques, knowledge of computer / Pacs applications, and good organizational and communication /customer service skills.
ACCOUNTABILITY:

Must meet the performance expectations as defined in the Radiologic Technologist Trainee position description. Performance and competency will be assessed continually by the supervisor/manager. Any areas that are determined to be unsatisfactory will require additional training and re-evaluation within 30 days. It is the expectation that Trainees will become board certified, licensed, and competent to be promoted to a Rad Tech 1 within 120 days.
COMPLEXITY:

Demonstrates planning and decision making skills necessary to manage a patient schedule with minimal assistance and utilize radiographic imaging equipment efficiently. Active participant in clinical research and teaching and training of new technical staff and students.
PHYSICAL_DEMAND:

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds to assist with patient transfers.
