THE POSITION

Are you passionate about environmental compliance and sustainability? The Bureau of Environmental Management at Fort Indiantown Gap is looking for an experienced Environmental Specialist 2 to join the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA). This position gives you the opportunity to utilize your specialized skill set to ensure that DMVA properties and activities adhere to environmental laws, policies, and regulations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Environmental Specialist 2, you will be required to have a thorough knowledge and understanding of specific Pennsylvania environmental regulations and specific Federal environmental regulations related to storage tanks and spill prevention plans. You will be responsible for implementing the storage tank program through inspections, testing, contracting environmental testing and repair services, as well as training and educating DMVA's storage tank operators. You will have the opportunity to work closely with National Guard units, Readiness Centers, and numerous sections within DMVA to include but not limited to the Adjutant General, FTIG engineers, project managers, and installation maintenance personnel. Work involves conducting annual inspections at DMVA owned Underground Storage Tank (UST) and Above Ground Storage Tank (AST) facilities to assess the condition of the storage tank systems in order to determine the operational and regulatory compliance status of each storage tank. You will also be responsible for developing, initiating, and performing corrective actions for noted deficiencies and potential violations. Effective communication is essential as you will be establishing working relationships with local and state conservation organizations and agencies so they have an adequate understanding of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard environmental program goals and objectives.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 45-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You must work in the office at least 50% of the time within one pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Annville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as an Environmental Specialist 1, DMVA (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of professional environmental compliance or environmental planning experience and a bachelor's degree in the physical, biological, or environmental sciences; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must obtain an active certification in 24-hour Hazardous Waste Operations, Procedures and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training within six months of hire and successfully complete an 8-hour annual HAZWOPER refresher training thereafter.
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
