Overview of Role

We are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our Core Renewal Team! As an Underwriter, you and your assigned underwriting assistants will be responsible for starting the underwriting process for the MidAmerica region for existing business. This role will have exposure to all facets of underwriting such as approving referrals by junior team members, monitoring underwriting tasks in our system, completing endorsements within assigned authority, assigning work out to appropriate contacts in other departments, and handling renewals based on assigned letters of authority for multiple lines of business. We will provide you with the tools and resources to be successful as you'll interact with various stakeholders, participate in professional development, and enjoy career growth in your role. The Underwriter will work in partnership with their assigned underwriting assistants to ensure sound underwriting decisions, strong customer service, and renewal sales of AmTrust products are delivered.

This position is a hybrid work schedule 3 days in office 2 days remote in our Chicago, IL or Dallas, TX office.



Responsibilities

    Underwrite renewals and policy changes within the assigned letter of authority.
  • Works closely approving and guiding underwriting assistants in handling policy requests and renewals while making informed recommendations on referrals whether to approve, deny, or modify coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, state regulation, letter of authority, and general procedures while handling assigned renewal policies.
  • Maintains ownership of tasks assigned and provides acceptable service standards when processing and assigning tasks.
  • Provide agency support to assigned agents by answering general questions, providing endorsement status, cancellation status, billing inquiries, etc. or direct to correct contact.
  • Maintain files with complete and accurate documentation. Including any authority sign off from Chief Underwriting Officer for items that fall outside their assigned letter of authority.
  • Participate in creating trainings, standard operating procedures, and resources for the renewal team to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Occasionally participate in industry events and travel to meet with agencies to support relationships as needed.
  • Maintain strong product line and industry expertise and stay abreast of changes in markets.


Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in Commercial Lines Multiline underwriting or related experience.
  • Have the knowledge, skills, and experience in underwriting Workers' Compensation, Property, General liability, Auto, and Umbrella lines of business.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound logical decision-making ability and thought process with limited direction needed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet productivity deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership skills and positive attitude with the ability to work through obstacles to achieve goals even with hurdles.
  • Strong organizational skills with a desire to learn.
  • Ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner with an appropriate level of detail, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships while selling AmTrust to customers.

The expected salary range for this role is $92,000-$130,000 annually
