Job Summary

The Facilities Controls Tech III - (senior level) Performs advanced installations, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting of building automation and lighting control systems (networked lighting, DALI/0-10V, relay panels, PoE). Leads complex projects from design interpretation through commissioning, ensuring compliance with industry standards, energy codes (IECC/ASHRAE 90.1), specifications, and customer requirements.


Essential Duties

  • Handles advanced lighting control installations, programming, troubleshooting, and repair, including sensor calibration (occupancy/daylight), task tuning, sequence validation, and demand response.
  • Performs planned maintenance for lighting systems (firmware updates, timeclock/schedule management, reprogramming for space changes) and documents commissioning/check-out data.
  • Uses software tools to create/modify lighting control graphics, device databases, groups/zones, scenes, and sequences; integrates with BAS via BACnet/Tridium AX/N4 where applicable.
  • Coordinates work of electrical contractors/subcontractors for fixture, driver, and control device installations; provides technical guidance to technicians on lighting systems.
  • Documents compliance with energy codes and supports utility rebate measurement and verification where required.
  • Safely drives a motor vehicle and trailer, follows requirements of company vehicle driving policy, and adheres to all company safety requirements.
  • Maintains equipment, tools, and inventory stock on service vehicle.
  • Purchases materials and issues purchase order numbers to suppliers.
  • Uses technology/software to create and modify programming such as graphics, databases, sequences, etc.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two-year technical degree in related field is preferred
  • Tridium AX/N4, Distech, Siemens (or equivalent BAS) certifications and at least one lighting controls certification (e.g., Lutron, Acuity nLight, Enlighted, Crestron preferred).
  • 5-7 years' experience with:
    • Fundamentals of A/C electrical circuits and low voltage D/C electrical circuits and operation.
    • Lighting controls installations and programming (networked lighting, DALI-2, 0-10V, relay panels, PoE), sensor tuning (occupancy/daylight), scene/zone configuration, and schedule management.
    • One or more lighting-control platforms (e.g., Lutron, nLight, Enlighted, Crestron) and controls platforms (Siemens, Distech, JCI, Inet).
    • Access controls and lighting controls installations and programming skills.
    • Reading/interpreting lighting submittals, control risers, fixture/driver datasheets, and wiring diagrams; use testing/metering devices (light meters, multimeters).
    • Advanced controls programming and troubleshooting skills.
