Construction Manager - Underground FTTH | Railroad & HFC Experience (Traveling - Southern California) Location: Southern California (Extensive Travel Required) Wireline Telecom experience needed! Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Traveling Wireline Construction Manager to support and oversee underground Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) construction projects throughout Southern California. This role requires frequent travel to job sites across the region and a strong background in railroad right-of-way construction, HFC (Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial) systems, and underground telecom work. The ideal candidate has a proven history of leading field operations, managing multiple crews, ensuring safety compliance, and successfully delivering high-quality construction projects on schedule.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of underground FTTH construction projects across Southern California.
- Provide on-site leadership and direction to field crews and subcontractors.
- Oversee work conducted within railroad right-of-way (ROW) areas, ensuring full compliance with railroad protocols, safety requirements, and permitting processes.
- Ensure adherence to HFC construction standards, specifications, and installation requirements.
- Conduct job site inspections, quality audits, and safety evaluations.
- Review construction prints, redlines, and project plans for accuracy and feasibility.
- Coordinate schedules, materials, permitting, equipment needs, and labor planning.
- Maintain strong communication with internal leadership, field staff, clients, and external stakeholders including local jurisdictions and railroad authorities.
- Monitor production metrics, manage budgets, and ensure projects remain on schedule.
- Identify risks, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions promptly.
- Prepare and submit required reports, documentation, and progress updates.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience managing underground telecom construction, specifically Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH).
- Railroad construction or ROW experience (required).
- Strong working knowledge of HFC systems and related construction methods.
- Proven ability to lead multiple crews and subcontractors in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability and willingness to travel daily/weekly throughout Southern California.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, utility standards, and permitting.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with telecommunications contractors or major fiber providers.
- Safety certifications (OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, etc.).
- Experience working with local municipalities and utility companies in Southern California.

- You have 3-5 years of experience managing telecom construction projects
- You have knowledge of the telecom construction industry, including Coax Splicing, Fiber Splicing, Directional Drilling, map reading, etc.
- You enjoy problem-solving and like to troubleshoot problems as they arise in the field
- You have previous site management experience while maintaining a good relationship with clients and suppliers
- You are proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly with Work, Excel, Project, and the ability to learn custom software
