| Position Highlights |
The Arizona Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (AzVLD), with the University of Arizona, seeks a Histotechnologist. The AzVDL is committed to excellence in diagnostic service, animal disease surveillance, being an active member of a laboratory network safeguarding against Foreign and Emerging Animal Disease and providing expertise to the veterinary community of Arizona. In 2002 the AzVDL was one of the first laboratories to be approved as a Participant Laboratory of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) to conduct testing in support of APHIS and the National Veterinary Service Laboratory. | Duties & Responsibilities |
- Process tissue specimens: gross trimming of tissue samples, loading/unloading tissue processor, paraffin embedding, microtomy/slide preparation, staining (H&E and special stains) - instrument use and hand staining, slide coverslipping - instrument use and hand staining. Slide and cassette labeling - instrument use and hand-labeling.
- Daily recordkeeping including trim sheets, entering specimen codes into the LIMS, and other regular data management tasks. Quality assurance tasks including reviewing SOPs, work instructions as needed.
- Routine maintenance tasks including but not limited to cleaning work areas, instrument maintenance and restocking supplies.
- Maintenance of specimen storage systems (blocks and slides), specimen storage and disposal.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to pass the histotechology certification - HT or HLT certification within the first 12 months.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various groups/individuals.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
