Job Summary

The Finishing Department Shift Manager (1st Shift) is responsible for the overall performance and operational effectiveness of assigned finishing functions. Through direct leadership and strategic delegation, the Shift Manager ensures productivity, quality, on-time performance, proper staffing levels, and employee development throughout the shift. This role maintains strong communication with leadership, peers, and team members to support sg360's standards of safety, service, and operational excellence.

Responsible for managing operations across the following Finishing functions: Folding, Cutting, Attaching, Imaging, Inserting, Die-Cutting, and Shrink Wrapping.

Essential Functions

Operational Leadership

• Monitor production schedules and maintain communication with the Director of Operations, Assistant Director of Finishing, and fellow Shift Managers to ensure on-time delivery of finished product.
• Assign staffing to production equipment to maximize productivity, efficiency, and skill utilization.
• Ensure all production equipment is set up for optimal output and the highest attainable quality.
• Approve job starts directly or through delegation to appropriate personnel.

Communication & Reporting

• Communicate shift status-including completed work, issues encountered, resolutions, and staffing matters-to leadership and other Shift Managers.
• Maintain accurate production records for each job, including machine used, crew assigned, and all relevant production data.
• Ensure all documentation is current, organized, and ready for review by upper management.

Employee Development & Performance

• Train, mentor, and cross-train employees on job responsibilities, processes, and company policies.
• Provide consistent feedback, including recognition, coaching, and discipline when necessary. Document actions per company guidelines.
• Support a positive work environment focused on teamwork, engagement, and continuous improvement.

Quality & Compliance

• Partner with Quality Control to ensure all finished products meet customer specifications and internal standards.
• Ensure compliance with USPS regulations for mail-related jobs.
• Adjust processes as needed to maintain quality and escalate barriers promptly.

Safety & Housekeeping

• Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety protocols and promoting safe work practices.
• Ensure all areas meet housekeeping standards and support a clean, organized workspace.

Resource & Cost Management

• Ensure adequate availability of supplies, materials, and functional equipment to prevent downtime.
• Monitor and minimize waste of company resources, including materials, supplies, and personnel time.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvement.

Additional Duties

• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Job Requirements

Education & Training

• High school diploma required; an associate or bachelor's degree in management or business is a plus.
• Supervisory training required.
• Trade/vocational or equipment manufacturer training helpful.

Experience

• Minimum 10 years of bindery/finishing experience.
• Strong background in leading people, managing workflows, and solving operational issues. Experience working in a high-volume production environment preferred.
• General computer proficiency required.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

• Ability to anticipate, analyze, and resolve equipment, output, and personnel issues.
