The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary The Research Therapist will be responsible for scheduling and providing treatments to patients enrolled in clinical research. Responsibilities
- Review and be familiar with the purpose and various therapeutic treatments for diverse research studies within the Department of Rehabilitation & Regenerative Medicine.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
- Examine patients in collaboration with Principal Investigators/research personnel and other health care professionals in an outpatient setting to assess the appropriateness of specific study-related interventions, provide quality care, and strengthen continuity of care.
- Maintain up-to-date patient visit logs, case report forms, and documentation as related to research treatment.
- Complete documentation as required by the Institutional Review Board and maintain documentation up to date.
- Effectively troubleshoot basic robotic/computer/software issues.
- Participate in the rehabilitative care of patients in various neurologic pathologies throughout the lifespan, ranging in age from infants and toddlers to the elderly. This includes, but is not limited to, diagnoses such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, and spinal cord injuries.
- Communicate effectively by providing teaching to patients and their families regarding disease processes, purpose and details of research, the purpose and type of care the patient will receive, and be able to respond promptly and effectively to inquiries from patients regarding their care relating to their participation in the study as they arise.
- Contribute to research study design, analysis of results, presentation of research findings, and writing and publishing manuscripts to disseminate research results.
- Independently utilize robotic and other technologies (both commercial devices as well as devices in developmental stages) to deliver patient care.
- Participate in the recruitment and orientation of patients interested in participating in research.
- Effectively communicate with engineers and other research personnel regarding equipment and patient performance.
- Assisting patients with the coordination of services in a professional manner to ensure overall patient satisfaction.
- Develop, review, and appropriately update policies, protocols, standards of practice, standard operating procedures, and scope of clinical practice for the Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine.
- Functions within the standards of practice established by the American Physical and/or Occupational Therapy Association. Acts within the policies and procedures of the University, hospital, and clinical department.
- Work on special projects and perform other related duties assigned or requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience required, plus 4 years of related experience.
- Licensed in the State of New York.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's in Physical or Occupational Therapy or equivalent in education, training, and experience.
- Experience in the treatment of neurological pathologies preferred.
- 1-2 years of related patient care experience.
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

- Medium physical workload that requires frequent standing, kneeling, crouching, and walking.
- Position requires occasional lifting and pushing.
- Participation in the medical surveillance program.
- Contact with patients and/or human research subjects.
- Wear N-95 respirator
- Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
