About The Position
The Director, Safety is responsible for oversight of the Ameren Safety program for the customer operations side of the business. The director provides strategic and tactical direction of the Department in support of the Ameren safety vision. The primary objective of the role is to establish a culture of zero unsafe acts, where every employee is committed to the safety of every employee.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership to a team of professionals, ensuring the continued growth and development of each team member along with managing an annual multimillion dollar budget.
  • Influence leaders and workforce to increase focus on safety, drive and measure safe behaviors, and inspire a safe work attitude.
  • Collaborate with other safety leaders to provide solutions to hazardous operational problems, further establish a culture of safety, and become a leader in utility safety performance.
  • Ensure effective implementation and execution of the Corporate Safety strategy and associated programs.
  • Provide overall safety strategy and direction while ensuring program and policy compliance, alignment with contractual obligations, and compliance with Federal and State safety regulations.
  • Envision and advise on company safety policies, procedures and programs to safeguard co-workers, property, and the public; initiate in-depth analysis and subsequent implementation of control measures to eliminate unsafe conditions and behaviors; monitor and analyze safety statistics to determine trends; and research best practices and initiate and/or implement applicable leading-edge safety programs in order to continually improve the safety program and results.
  • Job duties require travel throughout Missouri and Illinois service territories approximately 60% of the time.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, Construction Safety, Risk Management, or other relevant field of study.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience required.
  • Utility experience strongly preferred.
  • Relevant experience may include safety management in energy delivery operations (gas or electric), generation, transmission, construction, manufacturing, or other strategic or operational experience with significant exposure to electric and or gas operations.
  • Strategic or operational experience in electric and or gas operations preferred.
  • 5 years supervisory or high-level project experience required.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong people leadership skills.
  • A working knowledge of general business and core operational concepts.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to engage and influence all sectors of the organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Information:

Ameren's selection process includes a series of interviews and may include a leadership assessment process. Specific details will be provided to qualified candidates.

Compensation Range:

$165,100.00 - $255,900.00

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance. Director and above positions also include a Long-Term Incentive Plan and the option to enroll in a Deferred Compensation Plan.
