Position Highlights

The Department of Medicine is seeking candidates for a part-time Financial Analyst III to help support a team of analysts and accountants focused on accounting operations of the department. This position will report to the Financial Operations Manager and will work in collaboration with the current Financial Analyst, Senior.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supports the Financial Analyst team with respect to routine and non-routine functions in the Finance Office, which includes monitoring and reviewing workflows, policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure that they are being followed consistently.
  • Assists in reviewing and implementing policies and procedures pertaining to financial issues, which includes developing internal control structures for financial operations and monitoring transactions for consistency with respect to the Departmental policies and procedures and sponsor, state, and donor regulations. Communicates with FSO offices as necessary.
  • Assists with the development of financial and operational reporting in UAccess systems, reviews funding plans, budget worksheets, and/or other tools to create one plan that is used across all teams.
  • Provides high level of financial analysis by collecting, interpreting, and evaluating financial data from various sources.
  • Supports the Financial Operations Manager and Financial Analyst, Senior with some oversight on the day to day operational activities within Finance Office, Department Administration and Medical Education Office, which includes approving non-personnel expenditures on behalf of the Department, making decisions on purchases, monitoring accounts in deficit status, requesting new accounts and approving backstops.
  • Performs mid level review of commitments, division operation spending, and costshare compliance.
  • Maintains tools to support the finance office including funding plans templates, budget worksheets, financial reporting templates.
  • Assists in managing departmental dashboards in analytics and agents including CME, Fellowship Allocation, New Accounts, Deficit Accounts, missing subaccount transactions.
  • Assists with training new and current staff in UA/Banner operational processes and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Five (5) years of related work experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience interpreting University of Arizona business policies and procedures.
  • At least three years of experience managing state, discretionary, sponsored and gift funds.
  • At least three years of experience working in a an academic institution, in a financial capacity.
  • At least three years of experience creating financial reporting tools with the ability to create customized reports from UAccess systems.
  • At least three years of experience working with a database or data storage software, with the ability to create customized reports.
  • At least three years of experience performing and managing University of Arizona capital and non-capital inventory including inventory control.
  • At least three years of experience with University of Arizona archiving and records retention practices, policies, and time line schedules.
