Overview
Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Test Operations Engineer Lead, supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold Air Force Base, TN. The Test Operations Engineer will be working as a member of an integrated team in Hypersonics responsible for operating and maintaining ground test facilities in support of the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.
Open to internal and external candidates. The selected candidate for this requisition must be available to work any shift to support test demands.
Job Summary
The successful candidate for a Test Operations Lead role will be able to work independently, solve complex technical problems with minimal supervision, effectively lead others as a work performer and a coach, and place emphasis on rapid continual professional development of engineers to handle a breadth of tasks for testing operations. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others and manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively plan, organize, and direct the work of teams consisting of multiple stakeholders to conduct comprehensive verification efforts and successfully execute problem resolution when required.
It is expected that a Test Operations Lead will perform the general job duties of a Test Operations Engineer and maintain qualifications required to operate the assigned facility(ies). The Test Operations Engineer Lead will typically be deployed to a specific area, although the company may move a Lead or Leads to other areas based on workload demands and mission needs. The Test Ops Engineer Lead may support multiple test areas/cells.
Job Duties:
In addition to Test Operations Engineer duties, under the direction of the supervisor:
Ability to develop a fundamental understanding of a wide variety of customer requirements and develop successful solutions
- Support tasks/projects as an individual engineer as assigned by the supervisor
- Manage group assignments for engineering personnel, track task progress and help eliminate roadblocks
- Serve as senior TOE to lead planning and execution activities (estimates, hazards analysis, support SOC development, plan for future issues/foresee problems and resolve) for assigned test cell(s)
- Support strategic objectives by working with Chief Engineer, Sr. Staff across the base, and management team
- Maintain workforce qualification for test cells within assigned responsibility
- Serve as a mentor and provide technical guidance in trouble shooting and causal analysis for engineering problems in execution of work in complex test operations; engage with Senior Staff personnel and Chief Engineer on technical issues and encourage engagement of engineering staff with Senior Staff Engineer(s) and Chief Engineer
- Support/Plan day-to-day operations and activities for contributors to the project(s)
- Monitor individual assignments and performance (technical, schedule, and cost) on specific tasks, and monitor job hours for project/task(s) reporting to supervision as requested
- Allocate test operations engineers to tests, test planning; including interfacing with design and controls engineering, modeling and facility analysis engineers in preparation for test, post-test forensics
- Track employee progress toward established goals and provide constructive input to annual performance reviews for members of the group
- Support technical training of test operations crew, as mitigation of risk to operations
- Support development (including ensuring mentors are assigned/paired) for the team, ensure they are provided with the necessary tools and training to fulfill their responsibilities
- Serve on a technical committee (e.g., pressure systems committee, electrical systems committee), as applicable or assigned
- Audit/ test progress to ensure safety standards and best practices (guides, procedures and work instructions) are followed
- Interface with test customers (Air Force, civilians and consultants), and other BNH managers and engineers to ensure group objectives are being met
- Identify areas in the group where additional support may be required
- Support periodic internal status briefings to management and aid in financial planning with periodic labor forecasts for projects
- Responsible for ensuring SSHAs, work instructions, and configuration management of assigned area(s) is current
- Support systems engineering for equipment within or directly providing support to the assigned test facility(ies)
- Perform basic administrative duties, as requested by Supervisor
- Exemplifies the company core value and covenant of safety in all aspects of job including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with company policy
- It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy
- Performs other related duties as required
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university plus a minimum of 4 years progressive and relevant experience in an engineering team environment.
- Has obtained qualification status as a Test Operations Engineer in at least one test cell/area
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network
- Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to lead personnel and facilitate positive results with a diverse team
- A minimum of 2 years of test operations experience, including expertise in ground test techniques and related experience
- Currently serving as an effective mentor to one or more individuals
- Strong interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communications skills, and confidence leading small teams
- Professional Engineer's License or a Master of Science degree or post-graduate coursework in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical engineering from an accredited engineering program
- Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance
