We have an exciting opportunity for a Controls and SCADA Engineer to join the team with Barrios Technologies, a teammate company.



Responsibilities

As a Controls and SCADA Engineer in the Electrical, Data and Controls Section in the Operations and Test Department,
you will:

    Design and implement SCADA-based control systems using platforms such as Ignition for real-time monitoring and control of test environments
  • Integrate SQL-based time-series and transactional databases with SCADA systems for data logging and analysis
  • Troubleshoot and maintain existing Thermal/ Vacuum Chamber measurement and instrumentation systems
  • Program and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLCs for automation and control of thermal/vacuum chamber systems
  • Integrate Data Acquisition systems into SCADA platform
  • Perform system checkouts, instrumentation calibration, and documentation in support of NASA test operations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure systems meet technical, safety, and mission requirements
  • Perform other duties as required


Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering with experience in the field or in a related area
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or controls engineering from an accredited educational institution
  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience in control systems, SCADA integration, or industrial automation
  • Computer programming experience
  • Proficiency in SQL databases and data acquisition systems
  • Understanding of electrical drawings and procedures for instrumentation systems
  • Experience with PLC programming, HMI development, and instrumentation systems
  • Experience with instrument specification and calibration procedures
  • Proficiency using computers
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Familiarity with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures
  • Expertise in SCADA systems (eg ICONICS, Ignition)
  • Experience with Java, Python, and JavaScript
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and programming software
  • Knowledge of NASA Procedural Requirements (NPRs) and Johnson Work Instructions (JWIs) is often expected or preferred for engineering roles at JSC
  • Ability to follow configuration management procedures, document engineering changes, and maintain traceability in accordance with NASA standards
  • Experience supporting thermal/vacuum chamber operations
  • Experience leading front-end development for applications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation

  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed
