ABOUT THE ROLE

The Global Formulation Manager, reporting to the Director of Formulation, leads a team of Formulators, Lab Technicians and Processing Engineers to maintain and improve SC Johnson Professional's formulation portfolio supporting business growth and profitability through design and delivery of high performing and cost-effective formulations in support of global new product launches (NPD) and continuous quality/cost improvement initiatives. In this role, you will lead the development and deployment of key SCJP product categories such as Floor care, Surface care and antimicrobial formulations. Responsibilities include overseeing development designs into manufacturing, maintaining high-quality product specifications and developing strong IP to protect proprietary technologies that drive commercial advantage. This business leader is responsible for managing a rolling 0-to-5-year activities pipeline providing SCJP with superior products; a continuous cadence of innovation and robust technology roadmaps addressing key end-user battlegrounds, covering all SCJP product categories. The role is expected to build and maintain strong collaboration with leaders from Commercial, GPS, Finance to achieve corporate goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic

  • Demonstrate strong R&D functional skills, including effective communication, financial acumen, integrated risk management, project management, quality, robustness, regulation & safety, scientific rigor, and technical curiosity.
  • Create/develop portfolio strategies/objectives while directing team and long-term portfolio management to achieve top line growth and bottom-line profitability.
  • Build an engaged team with the required functional skill sets that understands their roles and responsibilities in delivering SCJ business objectives.

  • Develop those in reporting organization through training opportunities, coaching, and performance management practices including conducting annual performance reviews, management succession, and development activities.

Managerial/Operational

  • Resource and provide technical leadership of NPD/EPD projects as required, ensuring RD&E objectives are delivered to agreed time frames and success criteria or that delays/technical roadblocks are highlighted and escalated in a timely, transparent, and effective manner.
  • Support the development of those in reporting organization through training opportunities, coaching and performance management practices including conducting annual performance reviews and management succession and development activities.
  • Identify and bring forward capability gaps vs strategic and operational requirements via effective coaching, skills development and hiring as required and within agreed budgets.
  • Provide oversight of SCJP Formulation laboratories and equipment including implementation and maintenance of systems, methodologies and documentations and maintenance / development of assets and capabilities as required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree in a scientific field and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in CPG or closely related industry.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship for full-time employment.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Proven track record in driving global, creative, innovative new product development processes that result in product and portfolio growth.
  • Experience delivering new solutions to market including scale-up and regulatory compliance, ideally globally.
  • Experience in developing and executing strong IP in the field of chemistry & formulation.
  • Exceptional organizational/time management/resource co-ordination skills.
  • Investigative and problem-solving skills.
  • Scientific background encompassing skin science, chemistry, and microbiology.
  • Exceptional depth of formulation science experience ideally including floor care, surface care and antimicrobial products.
  • Experience of working within and leading sustainability strategy and execution within a business or industry.
  • Deep understanding of end-user research and insight generation methodologies and ability to robustly interpret research findings.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate accurately and concisely to multiple levels withing the organization.
  • Outstanding presentation skills and an ability to engage effectively non-scientific audiences on complex scientific issues.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Full-time office-based role (Racine, WI) with opportunity for 1 day a week remote work after 90 days
  • Line management responsibility for team sited in Racine, WI
  • Expected international travel c. 5-10%
  • This position is not eligible for relocation
