DESCRIPTION
  • Under supervision of Building Operations Superintendent, serves as work leader for Lock Shop team.
  • Assists Building Operations Superintendent in scheduling daily work and supporting a high productivity environment and accurate shop metrics including daily close-out of completed Maximo Work Orders.
  • Instructs and coordinates work of skilled and semi-skilled trades-people involved in the locksmith trade.
  • Ensures Lock Shop team submits daily Maximo labor reporting.
  • Assists Building Operations Superintendent in developing and coordinating Lock Shop training schedules to ensure the team stays current with the trade and campus needs.
  • Develops and integrates master key systems for all campus facilities.
  • Assists in developing keying Premise Surveys for all capital projects and large scale facility renovations and alterations.
  • Working in cooperation with Housing personnel, performs all campus-wide responsibilities within housing areas.
  • Performs journey level work in the locksmith trade including but not limited to: installation and compliance of access control systems, door and door hardware repairs and replacements, layout of Master Key Systems, and electronic and manual data storage for key codes and master key system information.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated ability to lead skilled and semi-skilled tradespeople in maintenance and repair tasks related to the locksmith trade.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a cohesive team environment focused on high productivity metrics and timely processing of Work Requests, including timely labor entries and request close-out. Ability to effectively assist in managing a heavy workload.

  • Demonstrated ability to be highly organized and effective with time management, including adaptability to rapidly changing priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively direct assigned personnel to work individually or in teams. Ability to establish, lead, and maintain positive and cooperative working relations with people of many diverse backgrounds.

  • Thorough journey level knowledge, experience and skills in locksmithing and electronic security; knowledge and ability to utilize correct tools, techniques and methods for handling specific Locksmithing and Electronic Security projects.

  • Experience working in large settings like hospitals, municipalities or universities is preferred.

  • Experience in securing a building, including responsibility of safeguarding and securing keys; experience with use of commercial door locks, panic hardware, and hold-open devices.

  • Strong demonstrated ability through experience to install, program, troubleshoot and repair various types of electronic access control systems; strong working knowledge of low-voltage electrified panic hardware, locking systems, and door closers; basic knowledge of Closed Circuit TV systems and related hardware.

  • Experience using and maintaining of hand and power tools related to job functions.

  • Proficiency through experience in use of computers and mobile devices, online timekeeping system, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and the use of various trade-related software such as WAMS Omnilock Facilities Manager, Alarm Lock D L Windows, Schlage SMS, HPC Code Source, and key tracking software; demonstrated experience updating and maintaining a variety of information into databases.

  • Strong demonstrated ability and experience interpreting equipment manufacturers manuals, service requests, blueprints and system diagrams. Experience working with Building Codes, Department of Industrial Health Standards, ADA Regulations, Fire Codes and University Accessibility guidelines as related to the trade.

  • Knowledge of building codes, rules and regulations as well as ability to understand UC SAN DIEGO policies and procedures as related to the position.

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills in recommending new systems, solutions and/or procedures.

  • Ability to effectively provide accurate cost estimates including materials and labor for requested scope of work.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly in person, over the telephone and/or two-way radio.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate safety equipment related to the trade.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

  • Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

  • DMV check and clearance required prior to hire.

  • May be required to work overtime, work on-call, weekend shifts and/or respond to emergencies.

  • Ability to work in morgues/gross anatomy/pathological laboratories where human/animal bodies or parts thereof may be exposed to view of the worker and/or contaminated by radioactive bio-hazardous substances.

  • Physical ability to perform all job functions and duties; ability to move through limited access spaces and to safely move supplies and objects up to 50 pounds.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $102,918 - $102,918 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $49.29 - $49.29

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
