Under the direction of the YNHHS Executive Director for Nursing Professional Practice, the incumbent directs and manages the strategy for Magnet designation and nursing excellence across YNHHS. S/he works extensively with Chief Nursing Officers and delivery network operational and Magnet leaders to facilitate and oversee the successful execution of Magnet designation programs and processes. In collaboration with YNHHS leaders, s/he leads the ongoing data management of nurse-sensitive structure, process, and outcome measures. The YNHHS Magnet Manager will inform the executive leadership team regarding Magnet required elements to inform the Nursing Strategic Business Plan in align with the YNHHS Nursing Vision statement.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Core Accountabilities:
    • 1.1. Provide vision and strategy in the design, development, and implementation of the Magnet program across the health system.
    • 1.2. Identify gaps and develop solutions for local and system Magnet framework enculturation and sustainability including structural, data management, and project execution.
    • 1.3. Ensure ongoing monitoring of programmatic performance at all delivery networks.
    • 1.4. Collaborate with key members of the organization to support the infrastructure for nurse-driven innovation.
    • 1.5. Enable a culture of system-ness across YNHHS for nursing excellence and Magnet.
    • 1.6. Promote the professional image of nursing and disseminate nursing best practices internally and externally.
    • 1.7. Inspire a culture of collaboration with internal and external colleagues to advance nursing excellence.
    • 1.8. Serves as a change agent to define the vision for Nursing Excellence in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officers and the VP of Nursing Professional Practice.
  • 2. Fiscal Management:
    • 2.1. Ensures that resources required for Magnet program designation are in place inclusive of human, external vendor applications, marketing, and data management fees.
    • 2.2. Ensures high-quality, cost-effective processes and efficient workflows to support achievement of program goals.
    • 2.3. Management and accountability for the system Magnet budget with oversight by the VP for Nursing Professional Practice and delivery network Chief Nursing Officers.
  • 3. Human Resource Management:
    • 3.1. Creates vision and provides leadership in a collaborative matrix environment.
    • 3.2. Clearly establishes expectations for levels of performance and ensures individual and team accountability.
    • 3.3. Ensures that all team members are clear of established goals, timelines, and deliverables.
    • 3.4. Establishes expectations for team members participation in professional development activities and peer mentorship.
    • 3.5. Maintains an exceptional work environment through effective leadership, direction, supervision, role modeling, and communication.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Minimum degree in nursing (baccalaureate degree or graduate). Graduate degree required which may be in a related field if the undergraduate is in nursing. Doctoral degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in complex health care environment with demonstrated accomplishment in training, program development or education required. Previous Magnet Journey/Designation experience required.

LICENSURE

Current Nursing license in the State of Connecticut.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Possess experience to understand the dynamics of a professional nursing practice environment and Magnet standards. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead groups and work on numerous projects simultaneously using change management frameworks in a complex system environment.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

This role supports Magnet designation and associated activities throughout the health system. Travel to YNHHS entities as needed to facilitate these activities of nurses within YNHHS.
