DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this internship, you will work with a variety of the Divisions within the PA SHPO to review and evaluate Pennsylvania's Statewide Historic Preservation Plan. Your work will include preparing and distributing a resolution to adopt the current plan; developing and implementing outreach plans to different partners, such as county historical societies; and critically evaluating and comparing the implementation of Pennsylvania's plan to other State Historic Preservation or Commonwealth agencies plans. With our team you will learn what statewide historic preservation plans are and how PA SHPO can support participation in planning for historic and cultural resources. By working alongside members of the PA SHPO team in a traditional and virtual professional office environment, you will gain experience in the importance of Pennsylvania's historic properties and community preservation. At the conclusion of the internship, you will have a portfolio of work products representative of the many approaches to implementing a Statewide plan. Apply now and achieve your goals with our team! - 10 week internship, May 2026 through August 2026, approximately 225 to 300 hours
- Work hours are flexible and will be finalized between selected interns and their supervisor.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. This internship is 50% telework, 50% in SHPO office space. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- All applicants must be enrolled at a college or university in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of their internship.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able and willing to report to Harrisburg, PA during the Summer Keystone Internship dates, which will be a 10-week period between May 11 and August 21, 2026. Lodging and transportation are not provided.
- You must be majoring, minoring, or have a concentration in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Public History, History, or a closely related field.
- You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
