Job Description

About the role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to lead the development, configuration, and support of data transmission workflows across a variety of enterprise systems and environments. This role is essential to ensuring secure, accurate, and timely data movement in support of both internal operations and external client integrations, especially within the context of retirement plan recordkeeping.

The ideal candidate will bring deep experience working with file transmission technologies (e.g., MoveIT, TWS/Tivoli, proprietary SFTP clients like Grand Central), strong scripting and automation skills, and a solid understanding of data formats and validation (e.g., XML, JSON, Regex). This engineer will also contribute to enhancing our data integration pipelines, improve reliability and observability, and streamline new client onboarding.

About the team:

Reports to Senior Manager, Data Integration and Transmission. Collaborative team of engineers, analysts, and client onboarding specialists working in an Agile framework, focused on large market retirement plan implementations.

What you will be doing:

  • Design, configure, and maintain automated data transmission workflows across secure file transfer tools (MoveIT, TWS/Tivoli, Grand Central).

  • Build and enhance scripts for data validation, transformation, and error handling using languages like Bash, Python, and Unix shell.

  • Create and maintain regex-based data parsing, XML/JSON schema validations, and file formatting logic.

  • Lead new file transmission configurations in collaboration with onboarding teams for internal business units and external plan sponsors.

  • Partner with infrastructure and security teams to enforce encryption standards, data retention policies, and audit compliance.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve transmission failures, delays, and file integrity issues within established SLAs.

  • Provide subject matter expertise on data workflows within the retirement plan recordkeeping domain, including participant and payroll data.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and Confluence pages.

  • Support change management and production deployment processes, ensuring stability in UAT and PROD environments.

What you bring:

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering or infrastructure engineering roles with a focus on data transmission and file integration.

  • Strong hands-on experience with tools such as MoveIT, Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS), IBM Tivoli, and Grand Central or equivalent secure file transmission platforms.

  • Advanced scripting skills (e.g., Unix Shell, Bash, Python), with proficiency in Regex for text/file parsing.

  • Solid understanding of structured data formats such as XML and JSON; ability to validate, transform, and troubleshoot payloads.

  • Experience managing multi-environment workflows (DEV, QA, UAT, PROD) with attention to audit and compliance requirements.

  • Familiarity with the retirement services industry, especially plan onboarding and participant data handling.

  • Comfortable working in a mainframe-integrated or Omni-based environment a strong plus.

  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple transmission pipelines and priorities simultaneously.

  • Strong documentation habits and operational discipline.

  • A mindset focused on reliability, automation, and client success.

Added bonus if you have:

  • Experience with job scheduling and automation platforms beyond TWS (e.g., Control-M, Autosys).

  • Exposure to financial services compliance and SOC 1/2 audit environments.

  • Familiarity with FIS Omni, SIP, or proprietary plan onboarding toolsets.

  • Knowledge of secure data handling best practices (PGP encryption, secure FTP protocols).
