The Oskaloosa plants include iron and brass foundries, a machine shop, assembly, finished goods warehousing, shipping and administrative offices. Job DescriptionPurpose: A gating system design specialist willcreate and optimize the channels in a casting mold that guides molten metal and provides a reservoir to compensate for shrinkage using CAD and simulation software. Core Functions: Design gating and riser systems usingCADsoftware, and simulate the process using specialized simulation software likeMagmaorPro-Cast. Analyze simulation results to predict and prevent casting defects such as porosity and shrinkage. Determine optimal gate and riser dimensions and placement to ensure efficient mold filling and proper solidification. Collaborate with the engineering and production teams to communicate design choices and address any issues that arise during the manufacturing process. Create and maintain detailed design documentation, including blueprints and X-ray sketches, and provide support for tooling and rigging. QualificationsTechnical Skills: -Proficiency in CAD and casting simulation software (e.g., SolidWorks, Magma, Pro-Cast). -Strong understanding of gating and risering principles, fluid dynamics, and solidification processes. -Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings. -Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. -A commitment to continuous improvement and a proactive approach to identifying and solving issues. Education & Experience: Required: H.S School Diploma and 3 years of experience in casting or tooling engineering, preferably within a foundry setting. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in engineering or an Associate's degree in a related field would be considered with sufficient experience.
