Monitor and coordinate hazardous waste shipments for all APM Dyneema LLC tank farms and hazardous waste storage areas. Responsible to meet EPA regulatory compliance and RCRA empty requirements. Strict adherence to U.S. Customs and EAR, Export Administration Regulations, for international shipments, in addition to maintaining DOT and IATA certification for hazardous material shipments.

Logistics Specialist will operate within the organizational structure to coordinate activities related to: 1) on site storage and shipping of hazardous waste, 2) hazardous material shipments, and 3) support import and export activities . Interact with environmental brokers, and work closely with the SHE Environmental Engineering, Site Logistics, Planning, Purchasing, and Quality departments. Accuracy in shipping hazardous waste is essential as discrepancies can result in substantial regulatory fines and penalties and the risk of an approved disposal facility disallowing further shipments, impacting APM Dyneema LLC license to operate. Accuracy in importing and exporting is essential as discrepancies can result in substantial regulatory fines and penalties and suspension of trade privileges. Accuracy in performing receiving transactions for raw materials and transferring finish stock to and from offsite warehouse locations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures all work is conducted in a safe and effective manner and all applicable procedures and policies are followed. Responsible for compliance with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOP's, and other related documentation and activities. Ensures Company guidelines and policies relating to quality, safety, housekeeping and cost effectiveness are met. Comply with all job-related regulatory, safety, and other training requirements. It is the responsibility of each employee to work in a safe and responsible manner in order to create an injury-free and incident-free workplace.

  • Abides by APM Dyneema LLC and APM procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of APM Dyneema LLC intellectual property limited to a "need to know" only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.

  • Manages and organizes hazardous waste shipments, accurately completes manifests, and follows recordkeeping requirements (cradle to grave) for strict adherence to EPA and RCRA empty compliance. Accuracy in shipping hazardous waste is essential as discrepancies can result in substantial regulatory fines and penalties.

  • Executes required documentation, adhereing to regulatory compliance with DOT, IATA, EAR and US Customs for domestic and international shipments.

  • Maintains import and export files according to Customs and EAR recordkeeping requirements; always in state of audit readiness.

  • Audits certificates of conformance for UDY recovery processing.

  • Performs monthly updates to solid waste tracking report.

  • Performs SAP transactions for UDY invoice reconciliation and export transactions.

  • Responsible for the receiving of raw materials into M2/SAP and transferring of finished stock to the offsite warehouse and recalling ballistic fiber from the offsite warehouse.

  • Responsible for the processing of small parcels and ensures that all parties receive packages in a timely manner.

  • Performs the Hazardous waste audits of the B46 & B47 waste storage areas.

  • Work with the logistics technicians during hazardous waste loading to ensure tankers are filled to the maximum allowable capacity. Also auditing the drum logs for accuracy prior to scheduling shipments and giving the Team Lead feedback.

  • Responsible for the shipping of packages to outside sources to schedule deliveries and pickups with freight carriers.

  • Responsible for all carrier cargo claims for APM Dyneema LLC. Tracks and audits to ensure APM Dyneema LLC receives proper compensation for loss.

  • Actively promotes team involvement in area. Uses group diversity and individual strengths to positively contribute to the profitability of the company and maintain harmonious working relationships.

  • Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing DYNPRO SHE DYN 653 and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.

  • Manage multiple waste streams to guarantee RCRA empty compliance for APM Dyneema LLC site waste accumulation in drums, roll offs, and bulk tanks.

  • Hazardous waste manifest must be completed with 100% accuracy and shipping containers labeled according to EPA and DOT regulations. Incorrect shipping of hazardous waste can result in substantial fines and penalties, and risk loss of approval from disposal facility.

  • Accurate completion of export and import documentation as errors can result in substantial fines and penalties and risk suspension of trade privileges.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Authorities

  • Authorized to approve work permits per details included in DYNPRO SHE DYN 026. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities.

  • Maintains DOT and IATA certification.

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the APM Dyneema LLC (Greenville, NC) work site. Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes. Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter. Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes. Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma and at least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably in a fiber production environment and/or equivalent military technical experience or training.
  • IATA and DOT Hazardous Materials Certification
  • Import and Export regulatory training
  • Excellent verbal communication, written communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills required. Accurate recordkeeping per regulatory requirements and ability to manage several activities concurrently.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and/or hear. Occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally handle up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with the exception of high noise areas.
  • Proper personal safety equipment needs to be used while performing this job and that equipment is dictated by the plant safety guidelines.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, and risk of electric shock, vibration, non-hazardous chemical agents and outside weather conditions.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
