DESCRIPTION

The UC San Diego School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. It is the responsibility of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Department to ensure that all UC San Diego CPD activities conform to the policies and guidelines of the ACCME, AMA, and other regulatory bodies. UC San Diego CPD disseminates and implements ACCME policies, guidelines and compliance measures, ensures compliance with CaliforniaMedical Board licensure regulations associated with legislated CME content, interprets and applies state and federal laws and regulations, and works closely with University entities and affiliated institutions to develop and assure the quality of the University's curriculum for lifelong learning and continuous professional development. The unit also provides maintenance of certification services in an increasingly complex and volume intensive environment, supporting Health System faculty in their ongoing re-licensure needs.

The unit sponsors more than 300 CME-accredited activities and several non-CME activities each year including more than 150 live conferences, several self-paced learning modules in video, audio and web-based formats, and coordinates the certification and oversight of over 130 regularly-scheduled series in clinical departments and organized research units throughout the School and the Rady Children's Hospital. The CPD unit reviews and certifies all activities for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit, provides consultation in the design, delivery and evaluation of educational interventions, negotiates conference venue contracts and plans logistics for multi-day conferences, provides financial management and auditing for CME activities, enrolls registrants in activities and issues CME credit certificates to more than 30,000 learners annually.

The unit is also responsible for faculty development for medical education, providing direct support to the Executive Director for Faculty Development and other Medical Education leadership.

Oversees the administration and operations of health profession education programs which may include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation. Develops, prioritizes and implements strategies that improve program quality, processes, and compliance.

Under the direction of the Director of CPD and with work direction from Executive Director for Faculty Development, the incumbent is responsible for oversight of event services for CPD educational programs, including serving as the facilitator to physician faculty, content experts, researchers and staff, who wish to conduct certified CME, non-CME and interprofessional education. The incumbent is an important member of the operations team and supports the program with a variety of functions such as staff development, supervision, process improvement and business development. Incumbent also supports the Executive Director for Faculty Development in the planning and delivery of faculty development activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Nine years of related experience or a Bachelor's degree in a science related field of study plus five (5) years of experience related to the work to be performed; or a combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of the health professions education industry, administrative analysis and operations research. Knowledge of assigned program requirements and curriculum.

  • Knowledge of department, organization, HR and university policies and processes. Current knowledge of relevant industry federal, state and local laws and regulations including national accrediting organizations and state and federal licensing and regulatory offices.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on educational techniques. Motivates and inspires staff to improve the health profession education services.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment. Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner.

  • Effective communication skills with peers, learners, faculty, and other education program coordinators / managers.

  • Skills to evaluate issues and identify solutions within defined procedures and policies. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions through critical thinking process.

  • Verbal and written communication skills to explain technical health profession / education concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.

  • In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote a wide-range of teaching and learning goals.

  • Proven ability to recruit faculty and integrate learners which requires high-level planning and coordination skills, the ability to think strategically and communicate complex information to multiple stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in related area.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $88,000 - $161,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $42.15 - $77.39

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
