This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

You will work across subsystems and support integrated solutions to achieve our vision of "millions of people living and working in space" and apply system safety engineering practices across subject areas predicated to a high degree on your technical skills. You will support the development of system safety engineering processes for the program, ensure consistent implementations across the program, and serve in a system integration capacity working with multi-discipline teams to arrive at technical system solutions. You will support requirements definition, validation, and verification at all levels of the program using tools like DOORS Next Gen, system lifecycle configuration management tools, Reliasoft, and other functional analysis toolsets.

Additionally, this role requires understanding and supporting requirements analysis and traceability, functional analysis, systems analysis, safety analysis, technical performance monitoring, verification planning and closure, and test plan development. You will ensure the alignment and consistent implementation of New Glenn system and safety engineering practices from system to lower-level program tiers. You will also participate in gated reviews, develop health metrics to support insight into program health and tracking to major landmarks.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and perform reviews of Avionics system safety analyses including FHAs, FMECAs, FTAs, CCAs, and Human Error Assessments.

  • Perform Avionics reliability analyses including reliability predictions in accordance with 217 Plus prediction model

  • Evaluate Avionics safety products and requirements for compliance with our system safety processes and products against internal and external standards including Range Safety, NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, or ARP-4761.

  • Implement and maintain system safety processes and identify continuous improvement opportunities

  • Train and mentor engineers on identifying and analyzing system safety risks

  • Work with systems engineering and subsystem cognizant engineers to identify and verify compliance with system safety requirements.

  • Assist in generating metrics and report on program system safety status

  • Participate in actively maintaining a healthy system safety culture

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial engineering, or a similar technical field.

  • 5+ years of proven experience in the aerospace industry

  • Highly knowledgeable of system safety fundamentals

  • Experience interpreting and assessing compliance to regulatory requirements and mentorship.

  • Ability to assess avionics system designs through all phases of operation for safety, reliability, and mission criticality

  • Willingness and capability to take ownership of analysis for systems outside of Avionics

  • Proficient in conducting system safety reviews and performing Functional Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis

  • Experience with reliability predictions and reliability block diagrams

  • System development/integration experience with aerospace or related hardware

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-directed and capable of balancing several tasks at one time

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years system safety or reliability engineering experience performing Avionics Functional Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis

  • Experience performing compliance assessments and tailoring of FAA and Range Safety launch system requirements

  • Launch vehicle operations and/or system testing experience

  • Knowledge of launch vehicle design and requirements

  • Experience with systems engineering tools such as DOORS Next Gen

  • Experience with project planning and implementation

  • Experience with verification planning, coordination of verification evidence, and development/delivery of verification closure notices

  • Process Ownership

  • Advanced technical degree

Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $107,707.00-$150,789.45;WA applicants is $117,498.00-$164,497.20

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
