What you will do:

The Operations & Maintenance Specialist is part of our Building Technologies & Solutions business at Johnson Controls. Due to our continued growth with our current customer, the University of North Dakota, we are adding this position to our team. This person will be located at the University of North Dakota campus and will be responsible for maintaining the student housing buildings. The ideal candidate will have strong maintenance/hands-on technical experience and a leadership background.

Performs a variety of repairs and services with a high emphasis on HVAC, mechanical systems, building maintenance, carpentry, painting, and plumbing. Working knowledge of electrical, electronic BAS, and related equipment and systems is a plus.

How you will do it:

  • Service, repair, maintain, monitor, and adjust HVAC systems to keep within allowable parameters.
  • Perform a variety of service work, and general maintenance activities. This will include carpentry, painting, plumbing, and facility repairs to building systems, electrical fixtures, appliances, and equipment.
  • Provide direction and training to less experienced O&M Specialists.
  • Plan, select, and lay out required materials for service, repair, and preventive maintenance work.
  • Work from drawings, schematics, blueprints, job layouts, or verbal instructions and operate a variety of tools and machines incidental to operations.
  • Requisition new supplies and equipment.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation schedule to attend to emergency situations.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards.
  • Perform other duties as required.

What we look for:

  • Two-year technical degree or two years of experience as an Operations & Maintenance Specialist II, or completion of an apprenticeship program.
  • Five or more years of experience in operations and maintenance.
  • In-depth knowledge of various maintenance fundamentals sufficient to deal with service and repairs.
  • Physically able to perform basic maintenance tasks to the highest caliber, including climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and lifting heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work on-call, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Use of a variety of hand and power tools or man lifts may be required.
  • Basic electrical system working knowledge.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to pass a thorough background check and subject interview, as well as a university background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Universal EPA Refrigeration Certification.
  • Working knowledge of Metasys (BMS).

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $28.85 - 36.06 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, andabilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
