Assistant or Associate Professor of Neuroscience

Job Description:

Since its founding in 1885, Goucher College has been a place of innovation and excellence. As a private, non-profit liberal arts college of approximately 1,000 undergraduate and 700 graduate students, Goucher is dedicated to teaching students to become complex problem-solvers prepared for the jobs of the future. Small class sizes, a rigorous curriculum, and dedicated faculty and staff allow for personalized mentorship of each student. Named one of the most innovative colleges in the country by U.S. News & World Report, Goucher is a leader in global education and was one of the first, and remains one of the only, colleges in the U.S. to provide 100% of its students with the opportunity to study abroad at no additional charge."

The Department of Psychology at Goucher College invites applications for a tenure-track position in neuroscience at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin Fall 2026. We invite applicants who share Goucher's commitment to fostering a vibrant undergraduate learning environment for all students. The position will support the new undergraduate Neuroscience major, which is housed jointly in the Departments of Psychology and Biological Sciences.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field by the time of appointment; area of specialty is open (e.g., computational, cognitive, behavioral, systems, sensory). The ideal candidate will show a commitment to undergraduate education and demonstrate evidence of scholarship potential at a small liberal arts college. This research program should be viable without a dedicated wet lab or vertebrate facility. The candidate will be expected to teach 20 credits (the equivalent of five classes) per year, including Research Methods in Neuroscience, intermediate-level and upper-level seminars in their area of expertise, a course that serves the Goucher Commons Curriculum, and rigorous mentoring of undergraduates on a research team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the Neuroscience program by advising Neuroscience majors and helping to grow the program. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to teaching students from a wide range of backgrounds and a dedication to engaged pedagogies that support student success.

Applicants are required to submit (1) a curriculum vita, (2) a cover letter, (3) a statement of teaching philosophy which speaks to the applicant's pedagogical approaches to instruction, classroom practices and strategies, relevant teaching experience, and ability to teach to students from a wide range of backgrounds in a liberal arts college setting, and (4) a statement of research interests. In addition, three (3) confidential letters of recommendation will be requested from finalists. Review of applications will begin on November 10, 2025.

Salary ranges:

Assistant professor: $63,000-66,541

Associate professor: $72,475-80,528
