Description

The Staff Research Associate II will be responsible for lab administrative tasks including but not limited to: maintaining and assuring that safety regulations are observed and respected within the laboratory space, equipment inventory and maintenance of laboratory supplies (PPE, reagents, etc.,) in sufficient quantities, general communication, lab meeting/journal organization, and providing guidance for new personnel through trainings. In addition, the individual will help maintain computer network functions for the lab members and manage data acquisition, storage, and analysis from major equipment.

Additional responsibilities include animal colony management and animal protocol updates, and routine molecular/cellular biological procedures such as immunohistochemistry, western blot, and tissue fixation. The ideal candidate will have experience in rodent handling and a strong interest in learning behavioral neuroscience approaches.

Please note, this is a full-time 18-month limited position that may convert to career.

Salary Range: $30.32 - $48.78/Hourly

Qualifications

Required:


  • Experience as lab technician / manager.
  • Detailed knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Suite, outlook, iCalendar, Zoom, GraphPadPrism, Adobe Suite.
  • General knowledge of the safe and proper handling and disposal of applicable specimens, material, and equipment.
  • Skills in handling laboratory animals.
  • Skills in handling bio-hazard material.
  • Skills in using the following equipment: autoclave, incubator, pHmeter, lasers, sterataxic apparatus, confocal microscope.
  • Skills in making chemical solution, media reagent, buffer.
  • Skills in ordering lab supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to perform laboratory procedures using applicable equipment techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to lift, transport, and deliver materials and stock lab supplies and goods.
  • Ability to provide assistance in solving issues.
  • Ability to work independently and follow directions.
  • Ability to maintain and husbandry independently for animal colonies.

Preferred:


  • Knowledge of cellular and molecular biology principles and practices.
  • Skills in screening transgenic mice.
  • Skills in extracting DNA, RNA from tissue.
  • Skills in protein purification, western bolt.
  • Skill in fixating and staining of tissue.
  • Skills in setting up the lab equipment and supplies.
  • Skills in maintaining back up system, database.
