The Pharmacy Technician II, Floater performs technical functions of drug distribution for Ambulatory Pharmacy Services under the direct supervision of licensed Clinical Pharmacists or Pharmacy Technician III and assists Pharmacists/Managers in the supervision of Pharmacy Technician I and Pharmacy Externs. This position will float to the Ambulatory Pharmacies to maintain adequate staffing levels as required. The locations include: Dermatology Pharmacy, Mile Square Pharmacy, Oncology Pharmacy, Outpatient Care Center Pharmacy, Specialty Care Building Pharmacy, University Village Pharmacy, and Wood Street Mail Order Pharmacy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Personnel
  • Assist the Pharmacy Technician III in the daily functions of pharmacy operations as needed.
  • Identify staffing and operational needs of pharmacy on a daily basis and communicate to the Pharmacy Technician III or Pharmacist on duty or Assistant Director.
  • Assist in training other Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Externs as needed.
  • Provide feedback to the Assistant Director, Pharmacy Manager, or Technician III for performance evaluation of Technicians and Pharmacy Externs if assigned.

Operations
  • Maintain an organized drug distribution section of the pharmacy to maintain an efficient workflow system.
  • Maintain an organized and proactive approach when processing prescriptions by actively communicating issues to the Pharmacist as needed.
  • Work competently in various areas of pharmacy operation as needed.
  • Assist the Pharmacist in any assigned program or area after completing training, as needed.
  • Assess the needs and priorities of various work areas of the pharmacy throughout the day, and communicate them with Pharmacy Technician III, as needed.
  • Assist in ordering and maintenance of inventory.
  • Prepare, compound and label sterile and non-sterile preparations as necessary, including chemotherapeutic agents if applicable.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Technician III and Pharmacists.
  • Fully participate in and support quality improvement initiatives and comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Possess the knowledge and capability of navigating 3rd party insurance plans.

Communications
  • Interact with Technicians, Pharmacists, Externs and Residents to maintain continuous and efficient workflow.
  • Meet with Pharmacy Technician III, if applicable, and the Pharmacy Manager on a regular basis to identify and implement policies and procedures relevant to the operation of pharmacy.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills as they relate to customer service in a clinical setting.
  • Attendance and participation are required for scheduled meetings and in-services.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:


1. Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Illinois.

2. Any one of the following that equals six (6)months:

A. Successful completion of a formal training program in technical, non-professional pharmaceutical procedures and practices.

OR

B. Work experience in technical, non-professional pharmaceutical procedures and practices.

3. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience as a pharmacy technician.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PTCB Pharmacy Certification or graduation from a Pharmacy Certification Program
  • Two or more years of continuous retail pharmacy experience
  • Non-sterile and sterile compounding experience
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
