Staff Engineer I - Platform Data Engineer

What you'll do:

As an IT Staff Engineer I you'll work in a mid-level role with proficiency in one or more key products who is responsible for managing and supporting the organization's IT infrastructure or applications. You'll identify development and support needs as well as taking on design responsibilities supporting project tasks. As a IT Staff Engineer I, you'll facilitate dialogue and activities, while also ensuring team collaboration.

As the Staff Engineer I, you are accountable to building scalable, governed, and high-performance data platforms to empower analytics and decision-making across the organization. Experience with Erwin Data Modeler and Tableau is a plus. The Staff Engineer I is a pioneer in our modern data platform working directly with data analysts, data engineers, enterprise architects and business stakeholders. Embedded in the Enterprise Data & Analytics function, you influence the culture of data integration practices and enterprise data flows and are essential to mentoring other data professionals.
  • Take assignments that can be worked on individually without supervision, and manage work effort from concept to completion.
  • Design and implement engineering principles aimed at reliability practices and sound recovery procedures.
  • Design transaction specific application performance monitoring metrics that can be captured and passed to business partners. In Addition, will layout reference architecture and visual diagrams that capture work.
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies, procedures, and industry standards, including reviewing and refining IT control enhancements.
  • Design, build, and maintain Azure-based data management platforms, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
  • Develop, optimize, and automate Azure Databricks environments for data ingestion, transformation, and analytics workloads.
  • Integrate and manage Informatica Data Governance tools for metadata management, data lineage, and data quality monitoring.
  • Manage Power BI workspaces, gateways, and datasets; support business teams with secure, efficient report publishing and data refresh strategies.
  • Implement data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Delta Lake for batch and streaming workloads.
  • Collaborate with data modelers and architects to maintain logical and physical models using Erwin Data Modeler.
  • Support governance and compliance standards across all data platforms.
  • Work closely with business and analytics teams to ensure reliable and governed data access for reporting and visualization.
  • Troubleshoot platform issues, optimize performance, and ensure uptime for critical data services.
  • Stay current on emerging Azure and data platform technologies, recommending enhancements to improve efficiency and governance.
  • Lead the strategic planning of a project as it relates to technical solution design.
  • Design and implement engineering principles aimed at reliability practices and sound recovery procedures.
  • Collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to gain a working understanding of business requirements and operational processes.

What you'll need:

  • 5+ years of related experience in data platform engineering or related roles.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure data services, including: Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Key Vault, Azure Monitor.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks (data pipelines, Delta Lake, notebook orchestration, cluster management).
  • Proficiency in Informatica Data Governance suite.
  • Experience managing and administering Power BI environments (workspace configuration, DAX optimization, governance setup).
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD practices for data platform deployment (Azure DevOps preferred).
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or PySpark.
  • Experience in data security and access management across Azure and Informatica platforms.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of general Financial Services or Banking preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Advanced proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously. Additional experience with pipeline development and leveraging Azure DevOps while working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Intermediate to advanced ability to see the big picture and align projects with organizational goals. Capable of leading and motivating cross-functional teams. Expertise in resolving conflicts and addressing challenges as well as skilled at identifying and mitigating risks at the project level. Proficient in governance patterns tied to intake, technical reviews and architectural compliance.
  • Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
  • May require up to 25% travel.
