Age Specific Responsibility:

Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned department. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.

Summary

A certified orthotic fitter is a health care professional who is specifically educated and trained in the provision of certain off the shelf or prefabricated orthoses prescribed by a physician. In addition, a certified orthotic fitter will be required to be proficient inpatient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, and provide patient instructions.

Essential Job Responsibilities

* Assessment of prescription and patient's needs for off the shelf or prefabricated orthoses. Excluding diabetic shoes, fracture orthoses, FES systems, Scoliosis devices, and un-stabile conditions.

* Formulation of a treatment plan based upon an assessment to alleviate limitations and enhance function. It is the responsibility of the orthotic fitter to request consultation with referring physician to verify prescription/documentation when needed to formulate treatment plan.

* Implementation of the treatment plan.

* Patient Education.

* Utilization of follow-up treatment plan that ensures successful orthotic outcomes, patient health.

* Accountable for achieving financial targets and performance benchmarks as established by their manager.

* Compliance with practice management plans. Documentation policies and procedures which include:

o Adherence to applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.

o Maintain a safe and professional environment for patient care.

o Comprehension of claims development and submission

* Adherence to ABC Code of Professional Responsibility

* Participates in a program of self-improvement and continuing education

Essential Job Qualifications

* Possess a high school diploma, GED or college degree

* 2-3 years of orthotic fitting experience or equivalent.

* Successful completion of an NCOPE approved orthotic fitter educational course

* Successful completion of the ABC orthotics fitters exam
