The Role:

As the Senior Director, Government Relations - Federal, you will be the cornerstone of our federal government relations function. Your mission will be to ensure the efficacy of Providence St. Joseph's advocacy work at the federal level, providing strategic counsel to ministry operations and supporting our public policy and regulatory affairs agenda.

What You'll Do:



  • Leadership Visionary: Supervise the Government Affairs Officer and Analyst, steering advocacy priorities and policy positions to align with federal goals. Engage regional and ministry leadership in grassroots advocacy efforts.
  • External Advocacy Champion: Act as the external advocate for Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH) at the federal level, promoting public policy initiatives that echo our mission and strategic direction to Congress and other policy-making entities.
  • Strategic Resource Provider: Serve as a pivotal strategic resource for operations leaders, translating federal governmental activities into actionable insights that drive performance enhancements.
  • Advocacy Program Architect: Develop and implement comprehensive advocacy programs to address all markets within the enterprise.
  • Relationship Builder: Cultivate and manage relationships with key external partners and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with lobbying laws and policies.
  • Partnerships Facilitator: Design and lead a dynamic partners program for PSJH, liaising leaders with policymakers and crafting supporting materials for effective briefings.
  • Connection Builder: Foster robust connections between PSJH and external policymakers by coordinating strategic visits and ensuring leadership is well-prepared.
  • Communications Expert: Implement effective communication channels to keep PSJH leaders informed about federal policy developments, providing educational presentations and documentation.


What You'll Bring:



  • Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Law, Political Science, Business, Communications, Government, or Health Administration.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in legislative or regulatory activities, complemented by 6 years in leadership roles.
  • Skill Mastery: Exceptional program management, communication, and analytical skills paired with proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Problem-Solving Proficiency: Ability to identify enhancements in programs and systems with discretion and sensitivity to confidentiality.
  • Government Relations Knowledge: In-depth understanding of legislative and regulatory processes at all governmental levels.
