About the role:

The Sr. Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing the overall R&D portfolio of projects through facilitation of meeting governance, strategic planning, annual operating plan, quarterly forecast cycles, and monthly actual financial review. The portfolio manager is also responsible for working closely with functional managers to create and maintain functional resource models that allow for speed and accuracy of project estimates. They will also work collaboratively with leadership and project managers to ensure portfolio information is updated frequently, accurately, and communicated appropriately across all key stakeholders including senior leadership.

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be in our Arden Hills, MN office at least three days per week.

Your responsibilities will include:



  • Governance: Develop and implement governance standards and templates to drive consistent reporting and updates for projects across meetings structures. Work closely with project teams to ensure content is developed ahead of key reviews.
  • Establish guidance and expectations for program communication and portfolio impact assessment.
  • Project/Program Management: Develops and implements detailed project plans for portfolio management processes, process improvements, and key portfolio initiatives; builds team ownership and commitment to project plan.
  • Schedule Management: In collaboration with key stakeholders, ensures all processes, activities, and deliverables are managed appropriately to meet organization milestones and portfolio reviews. Plans and aligns key stakeholders to the detailed schedule to ensure a successful outcome.
  • Data Management: Uses internal systems to update project milestones, study timelines, and key project data; creates new portfolio budget and resource reports to support management of projects and works collaboratively to update, enhance, and create new portfolio management reports to increase effectiveness of portfolio management.
  • Scope and Risk Management: Identifies and communicates portfolio risks and issues as well as develops and recommends mitigation strategies with key trial and portfolio stakeholders. Maintains ongoing understanding of project strategy and key milestones to ensure recommendations are aligned with overall business strategy.
  • Resource Management: With the functional resource managers, the portfolio manager will develop, update, and maintain staffing models for specific business areas utilizing data predictors; present staffing models and other data analysis to operational and business partners on a routine basis.
  • Communications Management: Responsible for team and cross-functional budget and schedule related communications. Informs and presents project progress to plan and known risks to leadership. Communicates and influences resolution of cross-functional budget or capacity issues.
  • Financial Management: Drives the management of portfolio and project financials including budgeting, forecasting, actuals tracking. Participates in budget development and evaluating how portfolio and project plan changes impact cost and schedule. Provides reporting to key stakeholder areas as needed or requested. Responsible for management of overall financial plan accuracy through collaboration with franchise, functional, and project leadership.


  • Relationship Management: Establishes effective, collaborative working relationships with external entities and internal organizations to maximize portfolio efficiency, responsiveness and resource allocation. Maintains a servant leadership mentality.



Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • Work experience as a project manager, data analyst or financial analyst


  • Project Management experience


  • Experience interacting with stakeholders and business colleagues to analyze and define business requirements and related project reporting
  • Ability to present to senior level leadership within the organization


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to collaborate with team members at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, attention to detail



Preferred Qualifications and competencies:



  • Strong Project management or Financial planning systems experience preferred
  • Ability to influence change to bring forward learning opportunities and new processes across the organization to effect positive portfolio management practices

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) - see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com--will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
