Marks is a brand design and experience agency in Chicago that is constructed to meet the unique and dynamic conditions of today's market. We create meaningful connections between people and brands that make for real results, both commercial and emotional. We use our expertise in translating insight into implementation in order to produce seamless solutions. The Design Engineer Intern is responsible for supporting the engineering and industrial design teams while performing a variety of tasks for consumer product and package development projects. This is a 6-month internship and will be hybrid based in Chicago.

Primary Outcomes

As a Design Engineer Intern at Marks, the primary outcomes for your position include:



  • 3D modeling in Solidworks and rendering in Keyshot
  • Consumer product and package design, development, and testing
  • Rapid prototyping including use of 3D printers, CAD cutting table, and vacuum former
  • Assisting engineers and designers in design, prototyping and testing of new product/packaging solutions
  • Attend client meetings as needed to provide technical support and creative problem solving



You Will Learn To:



  • Work in a professional and fast paced creative environment with a variety of clients and industries
  • Work with industrial designers and other engineers in creative problem solving and product development
  • Use rapid prototyping tools to create mock-ups and functional prototypes
  • Create test reports, mechanical drawings, specifications, and SOPs



Job Skills and Requirements:



  • Knowledge and understanding of project management, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, with different types of people
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including listening skills
  • Able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in time critical situations
  • Comfortable working within a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to seek assistance when appropriate
  • Highly self-motivated, resourceful and detail-oriented
  • Good problem solving and organizational skills



Education and/or Experience:



  • A Junior or Senior working toward a BS degree in mechanical engineering, preference for Manufacturing and Design Engineering
  • Strong knowledge of Solidworks and Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and Keyshot experience desired



Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00 USD hourly. Ultimately, in determining pay, we will consider the successful candidate's location, experience, and other job-related factors.

Qualifications
Experience
Strong knowledge of Solidworks and Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and Keyshot experience desired (preferred)
A Junior or Senior working toward a BS degree in mechanical engineering, preference for Manufacturing and Design Engineering (required)
