Job Summary


The Clinical Research Services (CRS) department of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) integrates multiple clinical sites across San Francisco, including Parnassus, Mission Bay, ZSFGH, and the SFVA. CRS provides a wide array of nursing and phlebotomy services to patients enrolled in clinical trials in accordance with study protocols under the direction of primary investigators. CRS is the largest NIH funded program in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

The Practice Coordinator (PC) works closely with the administrative, clinical, and management teams to support practice operations and customer service efforts. The PC is primarily responsible for administrative functions including but not limited to checking in patients at the front desk, complex scheduling in adherence to research study protocols, preparation of patient charts, assisting with research billing, attending in-services for new studies, and creating customized reservation forms and templates for new studies. The PC must become familiar with active study protocols to determine the resources required for each patient visit and obtain approval from the nursing and laboratory teams before scheduling appointments. In addition, the PC will serve as an ongoing resource for primary investigators and other study team members regarding unit policies, procedures, and workflows. The PC must be highly organized, detail-oriented, accountable, able to communicate professionally, clearly, and effectively in multiple formats with patients, family members, and interdisciplinary teams, flexible regarding changing priorities throughout the course of each day, and capable of independent problem-solving as well as recognizing issues that require escalation.


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $29.68 - $42.48 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and six months of related experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Demonstrated administrative / office coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and diplomatically with patients, families, study teams, and colleagues.
  • Advanced organizational and problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
  • Ability to use an electronic medical record system.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all CRS locations is required.

Preferred Qualifications


  • 2 years of recent experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Prior clinical research experience.
  • Prior experience using electronic medical record system (i.e., Epic).
