Library Assistant

Job Duties

• Work with Library Staff to exceed patient expectations for library services in the hospital
• Serve the needs of Patients and Families and foster a family-centered care environment
• Support volunteers in providing library services for patients, visitors and staff in a courteous, caring, and professional manner
• Support daily library operations, create and run reports, assess library issues and consult with library director
• Follow Hospital procedures and policies including confidentiality and epidemiology
• Support library staff and volunteers in assisting patrons with use of the Internet, printer, scanner, copy machine and FAX machine, as well as laptops, iPads, and gaming equipment
• Support recruitment, supervising, and training of volunteers
• Assist all other UIHC departments (Nursing, Child Life, Activities Therapy and others) with services

Schedule

• Rotating schedule, includes weekends, days and hours are subject to change
• May be scheduled weekends (Sat. & Sun.) from 1 PM-4 PM
• May be schedule during the work week (M-F) between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM, with alternating days off
• Average time must equal 20 hours per week within a two week pay period; additional hours may be required due to business needs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Demonstrated experience with organizational skills
• Previous experience working in a team environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer and electronic equipment
• Must be able to demonstrate job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work environment

Desirable Qualifications

• Prefer experience working in a library
• Prefer Master of Arts, Library and Information Science Degree
• Prefer ability to work independently
• Prefer experience in a hospital environment
• Prefer experience with databases, searching, processing materials, selection tools and video games
